18th January:- Congress candidate Balbir
Sidhu filed his nomination papers in the presence of Returning
Officer-cum-SDM Anuprita Johal at the District Administrative Complex here this
morning. Sidhu's son Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu is the covering candidate for him.
Balbir Sidhu was
accompanied by his wife Daljit Kaur Sidhu, Jatinder Kaur Sidhu wife of his
younger brother, Amarjeet Singh Sidhu, his daughter-in-law Eknoor Sidhu ,
Rishab Jain, senior deputy mayor, Mohali MC and Rajinder Singh
Rana, ex-mayor of Mohali MC.
Balbir Sidhu is eyeing his
second straight victory from Mohali assembly seat. In last election in 2012, he
had won with the margin of 17000 votes. This time too, he is not only confident
to win but win with the more margins. He was also elected MLA during 2007 election
from Kharar constituency.
Later addressing a massive
rally at Dusshera ground at phase 8 here, Balbir Sidhu vowed to turn Mohali
into a modern city. Over 10,000 party supporters attended the rally.
Balbir Sidhu assured to
upgrade local civil hospital besides opening a girls’ college in Mohali. Talking
about much hyped newly opened bus stand in Mohali, he said that the faulty
location of bus stand is putting people to a great inconvenience. It has
failed to serve the desired benefits to people due to its outer location from
town. He further said that if
Congress voted to power, we will provide affordable electricity at Rs. 5 per
unit and subsidized water and sewerage. Taking abut free housing for all houseless SCs, Balbir Sidhu said
that we will ensure endowment of greater resources by giving free houses or
5-marla plots with financial assistance of Rs. one lakh to eligible hopeless
SCs.
The famous industrial
clusters of state including Mohali are today moribund because of SAD-BJP
government apathy towards industry. As a result, the industrial development in
the state has become stagnant with no creation of jobs for the state
youngsters.
Balbir Sidhu said that we will also aggressively
pursue prominent global and domestic investors to set up unit in Punjab in general
and in Mohali particular. The Congress government will end drug mafia, mining mafia, liquor
mafia, land mafia, cable mafia, transport mafia and lottery mafia in Punjab.
The government will provide
one job for each family under its program ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ while ensuring
employment in a time bound manner.
He said that for farmers
who have remained at loggerhead during SAD-BJP regime , the Congress govt in
addition to debt relive will provide continue free power, direct transfer of
subsides, full input tax waiver for agro and food processing industries,
introduction of farmers pension scheme by raising ex-gratia payment to Rs.
10-lakh for families affected by suicide , raising crop compensation to Rs.
20000 per acre, provision of health , life and plot based insurance.
Speaking during occasion,
former Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal said that only Congress can bring
back Punjab on the development path.
Among others, Davinder Singh Babla
a councilor from Chandigarh MC, Rishab Jain, Rajinder
Singh Rana and Amrik Singh Somal, councilor Mohali MC were presented during
occasion.
