October:- PUCSC Secretary Vani Sood, met with the Dean
Student Welfare, Prof. Emmanuel Nahar regarding various student related issues
that were part of her election manifesto and the agenda of the Student Council
for the year.
The Secretary discussed with the DSW the
non-functionality of Solar Geysers’ in various Hostels. The DSW has assured the
Secretary of solving the issue at the earliest and directed the Wardens of all the hostels to
look after the repair and maintenance of the Solar Geysers’ at regular intervals.
A major issue that had come up during
campaigning was that of lack of proper lighting near hostels and in South
Campus, Sector 25, which is unsafe for all students. On the recommendation of
the Secretary, the DSW has directed the concerned XEN to install Street Lights
in all of South Campus, as well as proper lighting near the entrance to Girls’
Hostel No. 3, 4, and 6 (near Main Sports Ground).
Vani Sood also discussed the issue of the
reactivation and rejuvenation of the Placement Cells of individual departments
and has also requested the DSW to arrange a meeting of all Chairperson’s of
Teaching Departments and Central Placement Cell officials with the PUCSC.
The Secretary has also submitted a memorandum
to the DSW to appoint a dedicated staff for the cleanliness in and around the
Student Centre where the sanitation and cleanliness conditions have been
deteriorating in the past few years.
