9th Civil-Military Liaison Conference Chandigarh -2019 Held

Chandigarh 11th July:- The 9th Civil Military Liaison Conference was held today under the Chairmanship of the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, V.P. Singh Badnore.
The meeting started with the welcome address by Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh who emphasized that Civil and Military authorities are two wheels of a cart, which move together in the service of the nation. Further, Army Commander, Headquarter Western Command Lt. Gen. Surinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM**, VSM shared that overwhelming support has been received from Chandigarh Administration on the different matters of concern, and the officials have been supporting in resolving the matters of mutual concern.
The Administrator presiding over the conference, emphasized that the primary objective of the conference is to advice, devise and innovate and to ensure better coordination and liaison between the Armed Forces and the Civilian Authorities.
Further, the Administrator expressed his satisfaction over the action taken by Chandigarh Administration pertaining to the conversion of Welfare Housing Organization (AWHO) land in sector-44 A Chandigarh from lease to free hold, identification of posts reserved for ex-servicemen and general upkeep and maintenance of Service Married Quater areas in Sector 31 and Sector 47 etc.
 During the meeting, various ongoing matters were also discussed with the Western Command including demolition of unauthorised construction around Air Force Station, Connectivity of Chandigarh to International Airport and foliage/vegetation and drainage clearance near Behlana gate of Air Force Station, Chandigarh etc.
Other proposals put forward by the Western Command included compliance of Punjab Ex Servicemen Rules 1982 for recruitment in Chandigarh Police, re-designation of Zila Sainik Welfare Office Chandigarh as Department of Sainik Welfare etc. The Chandigarh Administration assured that these matters will be examined and taken up on priority.
Further, the Chandigarh Administration also requested Western Command to share their expertise in the upgradation of War Memorial, Sector-3, Chandigarh, training of the police personnel of Chandigarh Administration by the military authorities regarding use of latest arms and ammunitions, disaster management etc.
Among the other dignitaries present on the occasion were Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home), Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Finance Secretary, Sanjay Baniwal, DGP UT Chandigarh.
