Microcon Workshop:Newer Modalities Like MALDI TOF, Nanomedicine, Molecular Systematics, Pyrosequencing and Next Generation Sequencing Discuss

Chandigarh 23rd November:- The first day of the conference was marked by hectic deliberations at various workshops held at the department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER and other collaborative centers. Sixteen workshops were held in parallel at different venues including PGI, GMCH sector 32, and Fortis hospital Mohali, PU, IMTECH and Institute of Nanotechnology. Latest research topics in the field of bacteriology, mycobacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology were included with special reference to advances in diagnostic techniques. Newer modalities like MALDI TOF, nanomedicine, molecular systematics, pyrosequencing and next generation sequencing were also discussed. There were separate sessions for engineering control in infection prevention, virulence assessment in bacteria, diagnosis of fungal infections and food borne illnesses. Workshops on assessment of virulence in bacteria and taxonomy of microbes focused on the role that science can play to fuel research and evolution in the healthcare space to keep up with the changing world of microbes.
Innovation, scientific research and publication of scientific data are extremely important for the evolution of medical science. Workshops on WHONET, accreditation, research methodology & biostatistics, scientific writing, patent and IPR issues around innovation gave an insight on ways to publish and translate the creditable work of scientific community for the larger good of community.
Dr Arunaloke Chakrabarti, head of department Microbiology, said that diagnostics play a major role in modern medicine. Also there is a need for young microbiologists to redefine their role as clinical microbiologists and actively participate in patient care and management. The workshop on mentorship for junior microbiologists addressed the various aspects around these newer expectations.
Around 420 participants from all over the country gained hands-on experience in these workshops under the guidance of twenty-six consultants and many other experts from the various fields. Four days of academic extravaganza awaits the delegates as the conference gathers momentum in the coming days.


DC Orders Telecom Companies to Depute Security Guards at Mobile Towers

Chandigarh 23rd November:- It has been made to appear to Ajit Balaji Joshi, District Magistrate, U.T., Chandigarh that some members of the public and Unions have been climbing on the mobile towers, which are installed at various places in union Territory, Chandigarh, by the Telecom Companies, in order to seek public attention for acceptance of their demands. As such, there is every apprehension that such kind of incident will cause disturbance of the public peace and law & order and tranquility leading to danger of human life.  
Ajit Balaji Joshi, District Magistrate, U.T., Chandigarh is of the opinion that immediate necessary precautionary steps and Measures needs to be taken to curb such incidents by issuing orders to the Telecom Companies to regulate and monitor the towers in City, installed by them in public interest.
Therefore, Ajit Balaji Joshi, District Magistrate, U.T., Chandigarh do hereby order U/s 133 Cr. PC, 1976 as an emergency measure that all of the Telecom Companies shall depute Security Guards at these Towers installed within U.T., Chandigarh and the same shall be monitored and regulated by the Telecom agency in the interest of public. This order shall be complied within seven (7) days by all of the Telecom Companies, whose towers are positioned and installed in U.T., Chandigarh. Any breach of this order shall be punishable under the Indian Penal Code.

Punjab Governor to Kick off Literati:The Chandigarh LitFest

Chandigarh 23rd November:- The Governor of Punjab  V.P. Singh Badnore shall inaugurate the fourth edition of the Chandigarh LitFest, Literati 2016 on Saturday, 26th of November in the sylvan surroundings of Sukhna Lake Club. David Lelliott, Deputy British High Commissioner shall also address the Literati at the inaugural.  Dr. Sumita Misra, Chairperson of the Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS), and the Festival Director revealed that the city has acquired a distinct place amongst the literary festivals held in the country today. CLS has given a fillip to the literary activities in the region through its regular interaction and motivation to budding authors. 
She informed that celebrated authors participating in CLS Literati this year include Amish Tripathi known as ‘India’s first literary popstar’, thriller fiction maestro Ashwin Sanghi, former Pakistan Television producer Tarek Fatah, well-known journalist ‘Powder Room’ fame author Shefalee Vasudev, reputed psychiatrist, author and founder of Mind Body Clinic Shyam Bhat, prolific writer from Kashmir Chandra Kanta, Panjabi screenplay writer Jass Grewal, among others.  Literati 2016 also has a unique collaboration with Canada. Two of the famous authors from Canada would be part of Literati, including poet and playwright Norm Sacuta and novelist and award winning story writer Shauna Singh Baldwin. 
Author coordinator for Literati Ms Suparna Sarasvati Puri added that there is a special focus on creative writing and film making in Punjabi this year.  Punjabi film industry’s noted writer Jass Grewal and star comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi would also be sharing their creative journey in Punjabi cinema. In the evening cultural presentation on Saturday is internationally recognised stand-up comedian, Radhika Vaz. 
Dr. Sumita Misra added that CLS has revolutionized the literary scene in the region by encouraging creative writing, and providing a platform for networking with some of the celebrated authors, through workshops, seminars, lectures, meet-the-author programmes, and of course, through annual signature event, Literati.

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਜੇ.ਬੀ.ਟੀ. ਤੋਂ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਕਾਡਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਦਉਨਤੀ ਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ 63 ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਦਉਨਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਕਾਡਰ ਦੇ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਵੀ ਸੌਂਪੇ ਡਾ.ਚੀਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਪਦਉਨਤੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ 63 ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ.ਬੀ.ਟੀ. ਤੋਂ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਕਾਡਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਦਉਨਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਸੌਂਪੇ
