Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation organizes Cleanliness Drive in PGI

Chandigarh 23rd February:- Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation commemorated Baba Hardev Singh Ji’s 63rd Birth Anniversary by organising a cleanliness campaign and a tree plantation drive in various places in Chandigarh. The cleanliness drive was conducted at PGI, cremation ground and Dhanas.
Present on the day were Dr. A.K Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Pankaj Arora Incharge Sanitation and Dr. Suchet Sachdev Incharge Blood Bank Society. Joginder Kaur Jogi Ji, Member Incharge, branches North region, informed that the Mission has been conducting cleanliness and tree plantation drives since 2009, for the service to humanity, and these services are applauded world over. Joginder Ji also said that under the guiding hand of the present Satguru, Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji Maharaj, the enthusiasm among devotees for selfless service, is increasing. Ladies, gents and children participated in the drive that began at 8 am, here today. Over 500 Nirankari volunteers participated in the cleanliness drive.
Dr. A.K Gupta expressed his happiness on Mission’s selfless service to the society and thanked the Mission for its contribution. He also said that nowhere is such devotion and service around the world seen, as is the foundation of the Nirankari Mission. He appreciated the devotees’ selfless dedication and hoped that similar drives and campaigns be conducted in future.  
Niranjan Singh Ji (Retd. IAS) was also present at the cleanliness drive and he mentioned various social services performed by the Mission, like education, blood donation camps and medical check-ups. He also stated that Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation is number one around the globe, in service to humanity.



Experts Want Resilient Communities and Early Warning System to Minimize Impact of Disasters

Chandigarh 23rd February:- A 3-day training programme on the “Global Warming, Climate Change and Disaster Management- Future Perspectives concluded on Thursday 23rd February 2017 at School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The training programme was jointly organized by School of Public Health, PGIMER and Centre for Public Health, Panjab University.
The training programme was financially supported by Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment and Forests and Department of Health Research, New Delhi to provide hands on training to over 25 participants from various Central and State Pollution Control Boards and Universities. Participants represented over 15 states of India including Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Puducherry, Gujrat, Punjab, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Experts from various renowned institutes such as India Meteorological Department, Delhi; Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, Delhi University, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi including IISER, Mohali, PGIMER and Panjab University, Chandigarh contributed to the various sessions such as Global Warming, Climate Change, Weather Extreme, Ozone Layer Depletion, Human Health, Biological, Nuclear & Chemical disasters including Risk Management and Early Warning System. Panel and group discussions were also conducted during the training programme to bring the latest developments and technologies, which can minimise the impact of climate change and disasters.  
Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Associate Professor, School of Public Health, PGIMER,  highlighted that under Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction by 2030 countries should work to reduce the disaster risk and increasing resilience to hazards. He stressed that implementation of Sendai framework will significantly reduce the numbers of people affected by disasters, mortality and economic losses.  Dr Suman Mor stressed that local communities should be educated about disaster and to make them more resilient. Further she added that aadaptation and mitigation can complement each other and together can significantly reduce the risks of disaster and climate change.
Dr. M. Mohapatra, Scientist ‘G’, India Meteorological Department, Delhi was the ‘Guest of Honor of the valedictory function, which was chaired by Dr. S.K. Tyagi, Director, Environmental Training Unit, Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi.  Dr. Mohapatra highlighted that development of early warning systems, which reduces the risks in various sectors including agriculture, coastal zone management, urban locations, marine, mountain regions  and industries etc. Hence, countries should adopt Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategies in their national plans to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
Dr. SK Tyagi, Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi mentioned that climate changes are being observed worldwide and main reason of this is increasing quantum of greenhouse gases, through as compared to developed countries total greenhouse contribution from India is comparatively very less.  However, India still required to take the precautionary measure to reduce the greenhouse gases and specially carbon dioxide particularly for energy sector. He further added that the impact of climate of climate change is visible more in north part of India as compared to south.
Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Associate Professor of Environmental Health, School of Public Health, PGIMER and Dr. Suman Mor, Assistant, Co-ordinator, Centre for Public Health, Panjab University jointly coordinated the programme.

For the first time, fruit juice concentrate maker has roped in veteran Bollywood actor Ram Sethi, also popularly known as Pyarelal and Daisy Irani. The ad film captures the affection between the two actors in different time periods and the journey of Rasna in their lives as a unifying factor. The latest ad campaign is conceptualized by Scarecrow Communications, produced by Chrome Films and explores different formats and platforms in order to cater to the interest levels of people of all age groups. 

SPCA & Animal Husbandry Deptt Chandigarh Starts Human Education Program

Chandigarh 23rd February:- Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh-cum-President, SPCA-Chandigarh is touching new heights in the field of Animal Welfare every day.  In continuation of the process of animal welfare, SPCA with the co-ordination of Animal Husbandry Department Chandigarh started Human Education Program. On 23rd February, 2017 SPCA organized a visit of students of Oakridge International School at SPCA premises.  Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Veterinary Officer, Manimajra educated these students about animal rights and also gave them the guidance regarding protection from aggressive dogs and how to avoid dog bite.
They were also educated about objectives of SPCA and its motives and future plans.  Students were made aware about the deadly zoonotic diseases like rabies.

Prestigious International Research Award for PGI Pediatric Neurologist

Chandigarh 23rd February:- International Pediatric Association Foundation has selected Dr Jitendra Kumar Sahu, Associate Professor, Division of Pediatric Neurology at Advanced Paediatric Center, PGIMER, Chandigarh as the winner of prestigious “Ihsan Dogramaci Research Award 2016”. His research proposal titled “Establishing Phenotypic and Genotypic Screening Model for Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis Vaccine Associated Seizures/Epilepsy” was found the most suitable for this international research award. International Pediatric Association (IPA) is a global body representing the professional societies of pediatricians and this award was instituted in honour of Prof. Dr. Ä°hsan DoÄŸramacı, one of IPA's pioneer leaders. It provides US$20,000 to a pediatrician for a two-year project focusing on child health and/or child wellness. Dr Sahu will be invited to present the research findings at International Pediatric Association Congress 2019 in Panama City, Panama. Dr Sahu has also the distinction of being recipient of “Sheila Wallace award 2016” in Amsterdam, the Netherlands by the International Child Neurology Association.
