Independent Artists Announces Launch of 'Punjab Art Initiative' Unique Art Exhibition at VR Punjab Mall

Chandigarh 02nd November:- Virtuous Retail South Asia’s regional flagship center, VR Punjab, today announced the inaugural edition of an annual festival that seeks to highlight the regions unique heritage, art & culture and catalyse civic pride.’
True to its core philosophy of ‘Connecting Communities’ ©, Virtuous Retail’s VR Punjab today launched a 45 day long annual art festival, “Punjab Art Initiative” (PAI). The festival is curated by Sumi Gupta, Director – International Marketing & Product Development, Virtuous Retail in association with artchutney.com and will be open to visitors from 1st November till 15th December.  The PAI logo which was unveiled today, takes inspiration from the Shivalik Mountains and the Chandigarh Capital region’s unique positioning as a Tri-city area.
PAI 2017 will host an immersive art experience, away from a typical gallery setting, where patrons can meet artists and interact with art and installations. This year’s inaugural edition features a unique collection of installations and fine art work created by established and emerging artists from across India, including Gigi Scaria, George Martin, Murali Cheeroth, Vikash Kalra, Nilesh Kinkale, and Yati Jaiswal among others. Importantly, students from The Government College of Art, Chandigarh, The College of Architecture, Chandigarh,  Lalit Kala Akademi, College of Art, Delhi, MSU Baroda, and JJ School of Art, Mumbai will also share space with the independent artists over the duration of the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Sumi Gupta said “Building on Virtuous Retail’s enduring relationships with premier art institutions, I’m particularly excited to see works from students of The Government College of Art, Chandigarh which have been specially curated for PAI 2017. This adds to the great range and diversity of work shown from across the country. An interesting installation to watch out for is the Bench Art Project from the College of Architecture, Chandigarh. The 130 installations and curated events contribute to the many elements that will make this an unmissable 45 days”.
PAI will also feature unique art related events throughout the duration including performance Art by Chandigarh based Manjot Kaur who recently showcased her work at the Swiss Biennale 2017. The basements at VR Punjab will undergo a metamorphosis, courtesy the Basement Art Project undertaken by the students of the Government College of Art, Chandigarh who will showcase their artistic interpretation of Connecting Communities© across a concrete canvas. The festival will conclude with a children’s art competition where over 300 budding young artists from schools across the Tricity area will get an opportunity to showcase their talent.
To mark the launch of PAI 2017 on Wednesday, 1st November, 2017, VR Punjab will unveil the VR Art Car Project that features a Mercedes Benz painted by renowned artist Gigi Scaria, followed by a performance art feature by senior contemporary artist Murali Cheeroth. The launch event will also host a music concert by The Local Train, a leading Indian Rock Band originally from Chandigarh. 
The Punjab Art Initiative is modelled on Virtuous Retail’s award-winning art festivals at its other centers in India - the annual Dumas Art Project at VR Surat (since 2013) and the Whitefield Art Collective at VR Bengaluru (since 2016). The Whitefield Art Collective 2017 edition recently won international recognition securing the coveted Public Relations & Events Gold Award at the ICSC Asia Pacific Shopping Centre Awards held in Bangkok last month.

 Wedding Mantra awards night turned out to be a starry and glittery evening to cherish and remember for long. Dreams ran high as event had the most inspiring runway showcasing elite fashion and unique makeovers and styles ,super model and show stopper tara viva, social entrepreneur Aabha Jha Choudhry walked down the ramp and exquisite looks were showcased by stunning models in premier gowns designed by Buzjay fashion studio sweeping down the runway for grand finale. High fashion looks for grand finale were created by Ace makeover experts Richa Aggarwal, Cleopatra beauty and makeovers and Mallika Gambhir, Persona. looks created by them were PLAYFUL, AVANTE GARDE, FUTURISTIC AND CASCADING WITH INTRICATE HAIR ACCESSORIES.Fashion parody continued with luxury fashion jewellery show by brand Gehna by Sisters, stunning makeovers were done by Meenakshi Dutt.
Evening remained high on entertainment and fashion as starry event progressed with fashion show and sequence by multi talented Fashion designer Aurain Nayaab. The showstopper for the Aurain Nayaab Collection was  Mr India, Mr International Universe winner Dr Pankaj Ahlawat.  Sparkle and sheen of diamonds were spread by Diamond Constellation with fashion showcasing of diamond jewellery. Punjab University is Observing Vigilance Awareness Week

Chandigarh 02nd November:- Panjab University (PU) is observing the Vigilance Awareness Week from 30th October to 04th November, 2017 in line with the nation-wide initiative of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to promote integrity, transparency and
accountability in public life. A Seminar on the theme “My Vision ‒ Corruption
Free India” was held at PU under the aegis of the Vigilance Cell.
Prof. Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination and acting Registrar and Prof. Suveera Gill, Chief Vigilance Officer along with the senior officials and staff of administrative block of Panjab University, Chandigarh took pledge for eradication of corruption in accordance with the instructions of Government of India, here today.
Prof. Suveera Gill, while addressing all stressed about the need of inculcating belongingness to the organization with dedication reflecting the same in day to day work.

Prof. Parvinder Singh said that good governance stems from consciousness which results in positive development of services by an individual.

India Needs Clinical Pharmacy to Improve Healthcare System: Experts

Chandigarh 02nd November:- The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Panjab University Pharmaceutical Society (PUPS), is starting ‘Homecoming Series’ for our proud alumni under whichthe Institute shall periodically invite the alumni to revisit their alma mater to refresh old bonds, foster new relationships, and above all, share their professional journeys with the faculty and students. As a first step in this series, three of our alumni, Ms Seema Gupta, Senior Geriatric Pharmacist, Australia, Dr Neelam Mukherjee, Senior Consultant in Clinical Research, GlaxoSmithKline, Gurgaon & Ms Veena Sehgal Gomber, Business Consultant, Cadence Hub, New Delhi visited the Institute on November 2, 2017.
On this occasion, the PUPS in association with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Punjab Branch organized a lecture on “Broad overview about Clinical Pharmacy and the Clinical Pharmacist” by Ms Seema Gupta held in the Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Ms Guptaapprised the students about the importance of clinical pharmacy in India and she stressed upon the fact that India needs to tap the potential in the area of Clinical Research to upgrade the healthcare system. India has done extremely well in the industrial sector of pharmacy profession but on the clinical front a lot of grey areas are still there. Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairperson, UIPS,‎ and President,  PUPS,
elaborated the journey of UIPS from then to now and welcomed everyone. Professor Chopra further introduced the genesis of this series alongwith the antecedents of the three alumni.
The event was presided over by Professor O. P. Katare, Director – Research Promotion Cell, PU and President, IPA, Punjab branch who shared his pearls of wisdom with the audience.
 

Gianjyotians Shines in 2nd N.T.T.A Classic Open National Taekwondo Championship 2017

Chandigarh 02nd November:- Students of Gian Jyoti Global School brought laurels to the school by winning 7 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze medals at N.T.T.A Classic Open National Taekwondo Championship 2017.  J.S. Bedi, Chairman, Gian Jyoti Group of Institution was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Over 500 students across the country participated in the championship.
Inder of Class 8th won 2 Gold Medals, Vanit of Class 7th won 1 Gold Medal, Piyush of Class 1st won 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal, Raman of Class 7th won 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal, Aayushman of Class 8th won 1 Gold medal, Komal of 3rd Class won 1 Gold Medal, Parmeshar and Sonal of Class 4th won 1 Bronze medal each in N.T.T.A Classic Open National Taekwondo Championship 2017 held at Chandigarh.
Ranjeet Bedi, Principal, Gian Jyoti Global School congratulated the students and the proud parents for the achievement of their wards. She further said that other students should get motivation to take part in such extracurricular activities. Such activities provide a platform to showcase their hidden talent.
She added that sports give us a sense of discipline & respect for others and national pride. Such Championships or Initiatives would help the country to uplift the sports standards in the country.

Mrigendra Lal Das Joins as General Manager, SBI Network-II, Chandigarh Circle

Chandigarh 02nd November:- Mrigendra Lal Das has joined as General Manager, Network-II, Chandigarh Circle.
Mrigendra Lal Das started his career with State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer in 1984. In his illustrious career of 33 years, he has held important assignments in various fields like Retail Banking, Credit Management, International Banking, Government Business, NPA Management, etc.
Mrigendra Lal Das has been rewarded by the bank for his outstanding achievements on a number of occasions, for example, the Best Performing DGM (Operations & Credit) in 2010, Best Regional Manager (Chairmans’ Club) in 2003, Best Branch Manager (Chief General Managers’ Club) in 1999, Best Trainer in training system–1997, etc. He was also posted in Singapore during 1989-91.
Some of the important assignments held by Mrigendra Lal Das were DGM (Credit Monitoring Deptt.), DGM (Govt. Accounts Deptt.) both at Corporate Centre, DGM (Operations & Credit) in Bhopal, Regional Manager at Patna & Purnea and AGM (SMECCC) at Patna.
Mrigendra Lal Das has come to Chandigarh on promotion from Corporate Centre, Mumbai.
