Another Milestone for Akal Academy Schools: Now Featured in LIMCA Book of Records

Chandigarh 19th Mar, 2019:- After winning many laurels for their unique and value-driven education model, the Chain of Akal Academy Schools is now featured in LIMCA Book of Records for India’s Biggest rally organized against an important social issue “Drug Abuse”.
Continuing the appreciation and recognition momentum, Akal Academy schools have set a new record whereby 15,000 students of 113 Akal Academy Schools from five states - Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh rallied on roads against Drug Abuse. This rally was held on 18th December, 2017 and succeeded in reaching out and motivating 4 lakh people on their way. A total of 1400 km was covered that day which is no ordinary feat. The achievements of Akal Academy School are as special and socially enriching as their education model.
Dr Neelam Kaur, Principal Akal Academy Schools expressed her delight, she said that we are honoured and blessed as Akal Academy Schools have made into the Limca Book of Records. Due credit to the efforts of our students and we hope similar efforts would be made by other quarters of the society in the direction of making India drug-free.
Akal Academy schools are run by The Kalgidhar Trust that also runs two drug-de-addiction centres. These centers organize many such awareness campaigns with the help of the students of Akal Academy schools, throughout the year.





COMED K and Uni-GAUGE Exam Will be Held in 140 Cities and 400 Test Centers Across India

New Delhi 19th Mar, 2019:- COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE E entrance examination will be held on May 12, 2019 for admission into Engineering BE/B.Tech courses.
With 180 plus institutions and 21 Universities accepting ComedK and Uni-GAUGE scores, this has become the second largest multi-university private engineering exam in India after JEE .
Started as a simple concept of unifying Pvt Engineering colleges/ Universities  into a single exam 4 years ago, the examination  has enabled over half a million students to take the examination and subsequent admissionsto premier engineering institutes.With a reach of 140 cities and 400 test centres it has grown in strength over the last 4 years
P.Muralidhar  CEO,  ERA Foundation saied that we envision amplifying our reach and enabling more students from all states  to appear for this single credible, neutral, common entrance test exam. Aspirants will have the chance to appear for at least 21 Private Universities and 200 colleges in India, offering at least 40,000 engineering seats, thereby minimising the number of tests for students. 
Dr.Kumar, Executive Secretary COMEDK stated that Karnataka has been a pioneer in engineering education and ComedK has brought  together Private colleges in the state onto a single platform. ComedK institutions have been promoting the cause of engineering aspirants for the last 14 years.






A Favourable Government Policy Can Work Wonders for the Growth of Small Businesses: Dr Dinesh Dua

Chandigarh 19th Mar, 2019:- CII organized an interactive session on ‘Small Business Development’ at its Northern Region Headquarters in Chandigarh which was attended by 34 representatives from 23 countries. These participants are attending a five week international exchange initiative conducted by NIESBUD, Mohali under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and are scholars from Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) hailing from countries such as Burundi, Columbia, Ethiopia, Tajikistan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Egypt and many more.
The interaction aimed at sharing with the participants about the core activities of CII encompassing Policy Advocacy, Business Development, Enhancing Competitiveness and Engaging with the Society. Pawan Shukla, Executive, NIESBUD, Ministry of Skill Development, Government of India leading this delegation affirmed that they are looking forward to experience the Indian entrepreneurship scenario and how the country’s small businesses have grown and progressed so far, while such interactions will play a pivotal role as right platform for budding entrepreneurs.
Dr Dinesh Dua, Past Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council & CEO & Director, Nectar Lifesciences Ltd addressed the gathering and walked them through the Indian MSME sector. He said that a favourable government policy framework can work wonders for the growth of small businesses in any country. He also mentioned that India is the world's fastest economy with the annual GDP growth of 7.5 per cent. Our country hosts about sixty million MSME units that create employment for at least 120 million people and the Indian MSME sector ranks to be the second fastest growing sector of the world next to China.
Dr Dinesh Dua advised the participants that while setting up a small businesses, the quality parameters are of primary importance and it is mandatory to follow standard operating procedures while aiming for RFT, i.e. ‘Right First Time’. He also gave examples of Six Sigma and Kaizen that have revolutionized the world’s manufacturing practice. He touched upon the Make in India movement and opined that it has made ‘Brand India’ globally popular. Dr Dua elaborated upon the Public Procurement Policy, Micro and Small Enterprises Development Program, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme and intensive focus on Skill Development schemes that has improved India’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking tremendously as also has been successful to quite an extent towards encountering challenges while establishing small businesses; such as high cost of credit, minimum access to technology, lack of infrastructure facilities, regulatory issues, etc. Opportunities were sought in huge inflow of investments, change in economic pattern, major reduction in deprived population, better quality products, improved diplomatic relations and many more.

PGI Community Medicine Deptt. Awarded in Best Practice and Innovation Category in Community Medicine

Chandigarh 19th Mar, 2019:- Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, is awarded with Certificate of Merit in the Best Practice and Innovation in Community Medicine in the category of Community Medicine Practice at the 46th National Conference on Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine in Shimla, for the year 2018-19. Professor Madhu Gupta from the department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, had presented that an intersectoral collaboration between Chandigarh Administration and department of community medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, was established in 2011, to improve maternal and child health indicators in the catchment area of Civil Hospital, Chandigarh, and to train the community medicine resident doctors. MCH program implementation was strengthened through supportive supervision of MCH staff, enhanced community engagement through inter personal communication, husband’s counseling for family planning, tracking of high-risk pregnant women, identification of problem families and problem solving with cascade model, and efficient referral system in collaboration with MCH staff of Civil Hospital.This innovative model of intersectoral collaboration between Chandigarh Administration and department of community medicine was successful in significantly improving the maternal and child health indicators in the catchment area.
