Congress High Command Approves Ticket for Sunil Jakhar from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Constituency

Chandigarh 20th September:- Congress High Command on Wednesday announces Sunil Jakhar President of Punjab Congress as official candidate from Congress Party from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Constituency.
Janardan Dawedi Congress spokesman said, that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has approved the name of Sunil Jakhar and issued official letter for candidature of Sunil Jakhar. After consulting in detail with Captain Amrinder Singh CM Punjab, Pratap Singh Bajwa , Sunil Jakhar and Asha Kumari Incharge of Punjab Affairs , name of Sunil Jakhar was made final.
He will file nomination from September 22. Meanwhile after announcement of candidature, Sunil Jakhar was felicitated by party workers.
In the meantime Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh felicitated to Sunil Jakhar, President PPCC after announces by National Congress president Sonia Gandhi as Congress Candidate for by-poll election from Gurdaspur.

Punjab Industrial Policy to Propel MSME Growth: Rakesh Verma

Chandigarh 20th September:- MSME is the key engine of social and economic growth of the country, and the forthcoming industrial policy of Punjab puts special emphasis to propel its progress in the state, said Rakesh Verma, Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Punjab.
Speaking at the inaugural of the one-day conference organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on “Propelling MSME Growth”, he said that the state government intends to stimulate industrial revival in the state by creating conducive environment for industry, ensure skills development and open newer employment opportunities for the youth.
He asked the industries to form clusters in their respective areas for which the state government would facilitate access to substantial Centre’s grant and other infrastructure support.He added that cluster development is one of the key strategy that the state government has planned in the state.  He informed that there are over 1.5 lakh MSME units in Punjab and state is setting up Bureaus to facilitate regulatory clearances, and fiscal incentives, besides setting up 10 new Technical Centres in next two years to propel economic growth.
Rakesh Verma said that a facilitation council of Punjab government is already helping MSMEs to sort out the issues of delayed payments and more such branches are planned to be opened in Punjab.
Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India, Nirmal Chand,  informed that RBI has taken several initiatives under National Mission for Capacity Building of banking sector to sensitise them to meet the need of the industry in the country, simplify the documentation process, and make disbursements time-bound, apart from offering 100 % collateral –free finance to the startups.
On the other hand, RBI is in touch with industry and helping them understand the significance of documentation for quick approvals of loans from the banks.
SIDBI’s Regional Director, Anand Prakash Srivastav, informed about their advanced Skills Development Centre set up in Mohali with stimulator which is guaranteeing 100 percent employment to youngsters, and has also signed up an MoU with Mohali Industries Association, on whose recommendation, as per the parameters of due diligence, collateral free loan would be available to the industrial units.
SIDBI is also organizing financial health checkup camps in the region where balance sheet and other financial documents of industry are analysed to point out discrepancies, if any, so that access to finance becomes trouble-free.
Later, Punjab’s Director Industries & Commerce, D.P.S. Kharbanda, asked the industry to form clusters and take advantage of team-work for which the government would lend all support.
Ashok Sangwan, Director Industries & Commerce, Haryana, informed that a Mini Cluster Scheme has been launched where the state government provides almost 90 percent of the funding upto Rs.2 crores, and Haryana intends to setup 25 such mini clusters by 2018.
The state government is reaching out to industry and resolving the issues of MSMEs right on the spot through its ‘Samadhan Divas’ programme being implemented in 10 industrial districts of Haryana.
A K Malhotra, General Manager (Technical), Industrial Development-cum-Facility Centre, UT Chandigarh informed that for public procurements by UT Administration, preference is given to MSMEs, and through single-window portal all clearances and approvals can be obtained online.
Ashwani Kumar, Assistant Manager, National Small Industries Corporation informed that technical and marketing support is being provided to MSMEs free of cost.
Earlier, R.S. Sachdeva, Chairman of Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber, said that MSME sector requires hand-holding by all stakeholders especially the government and the financial institutions to grow and stay competitive especially in the global marketplace.


NSS Unit of GGSCW organizes “Rally For Rivers” Seminar

Chandigarh 20th September:- NSS unit in collaboration with Environment society of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized “Rally For Rivers” seminar in the college today. Volunteers from Isha Foundation enlightened the students about the importance of rivers. The students were motivated to grow more trees in order to avoid soil erosion and floods. They emphasized on participation for rally for rivers by everyone who consumes water. A poster making and slogan writing competition was also held to highlight the cause of depleting rivers.
College Principal, Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi applauded the efforts of college students and motivated them to contribute towards the noble cause. 


Measles Rubella Campaign Achieves Target of 92% in Chandigarh: Immunize 2,84,735 Children in the Age Group of 9 Months to 15 Years

Chandigarh 20th September:- Measles Rubella Campaign in UT Chandigarh has achieved the target of 92 % after immunizing 2,84,735 children in the age group of 9 months to 15 years. The MR Vaccination is being carried out in government and private schools .Also the outreach sessions are being conducted in Aanganwadi centers and all health facilities of Chandigarh. In 6 major hospitals i.e. PGIMER-12, GMCH-32, GMSH-16, CH-22, CH-45 and CH- Manimajra the MR vaccination is carried out daily and in rest of the health facilities MR vaccination is twice week i.e. Wednesday and Saturday.
The 3rd State Task Force meeting of MR Campaign was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Anurag Agarwal, Health cum Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration wherein all the stakeholder were geared up to cover each and every child of Chandigarh with MR Vaccination.
The Health Department, UT Chandigarh appreciated the efforts of all the schools and the staff working hard for successful implementation of MR Vaccination Campaign. Amongst the private schools, St. Joseph’s Sr Sec School, Sector 44, Chandigarh and amongst the govt. schools, the Government High School, Hallomajra, Chandigarh have achieved highest MR vaccination coverage. But, there are few schools where the MR Vaccination Campaign is lagging behind and the catch up sessions in these schools would be planned after the examinations are over.
The representatives from WHO, UNICEF, PGIMER, GMCH-32, LIONS International and were also present in the meeting. 

PGIMER Pediatric Surgeons Makes a Mark: Attend 30th International Symposium on Pediatric Surgical Research

Chandigarh 20th September:- A team of 10 pediatric surgeons from PGIMER led by Prof Ram Samujh, Head of Department of Pediatric Surgery attended 30th International Symposium on Pediatric Surgical Research and update on newborn and fetal surgery organized by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi at New Delhi .
Prof Ram Samujh chaired a scientific session with Michael Hollwarth (Graz, Austria) and Dr. Agostino Pierro (Toronto, Canada).
Fifteen cutting edge research and scientific papers were presented by the Department of Pediatric Surgery in the conference.
The poster entitled “Urethral Duplication in Boys” presented by Dr. Umesh Bahadur Singh (Senior Resident) under the supervision of Prof J.K. Mahajan has been awarded the best poster award by the Scientific Committee of the Workshop.


Faculty Bids Farewell to Four Eminent PGI Professors

Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER presided over a function to honor Prof Rajendra Prasad, Prof Rajinder Singh, Prof KLN Rao and Prof S.C.Verma on their superannuation. Many heads of the departments, former directors and professors were present.
