Directed by the duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam is a charming story of a bespectacled plain Jane ‘Saru’ (Mawra Hocane)  who is rejected by all due to her simple appearance. Dejected Saru takes the matter in her own hands and reaches out to her dashing yet unruly neighbor Inder (Harshvardhan Rane) for a makeover. As luck would have it, their lives change when Saru’s father renounces her due to a massive misunderstanding. With nowhere to go, Saru finds solace in Inder who is in process to transform her into a beautiful young lady. 

E-governance Becomes Governing Mantra of Our Fast Developing Nation

Chandigarh 30^th May:- E-governance has become the governing mantra of our fast-developing nation. Digital India is a flagship programme of the Central government, with a clear focus on delivering citizen-centric services with the aid of Information and Communication Technology. Speaking on the occasion of digitisation of the Supreme Court of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that E-governance is easy, effective and economical. It is also environment friendly. And paperless offices will benefit the environment. 

The e-governance project had a significant positive impact on the country. The e-filing and e-processing of documents have replaced manual filing and handling of paper documents, making government offices paperless. This initiative has ultimately reduced the physical interface of the business community with the departmental officers and provides a corruption-free environment with improved taxpayer services.

Punjab, along with many other states, has been at the forefront of this drive to start and extend e-governance initiatives for the welfare of the citizens. Certainly, the decision of the Punjab government last year to set up Sewa Kendras in cities and villages across the state to deliver services expeditiously is a laudable one. 

There are 2,147 kendras across Punjab which provide about 67 services, including applying for various documents at one centre with a minimal fee. The kendras provide services related to birth and death certificates, arms licence, power supply bill, water and sewerage bill, tenant verification among many others defined under the Punjab Right to Services Act, 2011. They serve as a one-stop centre for citizens to avail a range of government services. There is a Sewa Kendra every 2.5 to three kilometres in urban and rural areas to facilitate citizens who were earlier required to travel 20-25 kilometres and stand in long queues for availing basic services. 

The Sewa Kendras can be transformative if allowed to continue. E-governance is national imperative; such a citizen-centric project should be the vision of current government involving local urban bodies in the state to mitigate the problems of rural & urban population. It would be interesting to see if the present government raises the bar above politics or choose to ignore the “Citizens FIRST agenda” or continue the hoary tradition of dumping projects in the name of politics.

To see worthy public projects through the prism of political partisanship is short-sighted. Sewa kendras employ about 5,000 persons. With e-governance, the corruption and the proportion of paying bribes have reduced from drastically. Such is the buzz created by its success that several states like Kerala, Haryana, Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have shown interest to replicate the e-governance model. It also sends out a negative perception to other companies interested in investing in Punjab while it is possible there could be some lag in the functioning of the Sewa Kendras, surely that doesn’t necessarily have to mean rolling up the project altogether. Rather, the government should encourage improving the working, so that the process of empowering citizens is not disrupted. That would be an anomaly in the making of Digital India.

ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਸਪਰਾ ਨੇ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਰਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਜਯੰਤੀ ਮੌਕੇ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਜ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਤਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਪੂਰਵਕ  ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਲਈ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਡਿਊਟੀਆਂ ਲਗਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੁੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਕਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇ।

ਊਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਮੌਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਲੋਕ ਗਾਇਕ ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਸਦੀਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਗਾਇਕ ਜੋੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਸੰਗੀਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਦਵ ਦਰਕ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨੀ ਗੀਤ- ਸੰਗੀਤ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਖੀ ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਚਾਹਲ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਮੌਕੇ ਟਰੈਫਿਕ ਲਈ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਕਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਟਰੈਫਿਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਪੇਸ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ।

NGO Demands Higher Tax Slab Over Bidis to Save Precious Lives

Chandigarh 30^th May:- Consumer and health activists have come together to show concern over how a lower GST rate for bidis than for cigarettes will hurt the health of millions. The national NGO Citizens Awareness Group, headquartered in Chandigarh has informed that while the GST Council is still debating the structure of rates, there is overreaching consensus that tobacco needs to be taxed at the highest rate.

While voicing his concern over the issue, the chairman of Citizens Awareness Group, Surinder Verma said that Bidis are mostly consumed by the poor strata of the society and keeping them under a low tax regime will not only be detrimental to public health but also anti poor. The central government should pay attention in this regard in its upcoming GST meeting to be held on June 3. We request that bidis should be taxed in highest slab of more than 28 per cent. Besides, It is disappointing that some states are in favour of lower taxation on bidis which shows that they are ignoring the health concerns over the commercial gains..

As per the relevant date over 1 million deaths in India every year are tobacco related and almost two thirds of tobacco consumers in India actually consume bidis leading to debilitating diseases and even death. According to a report published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2008, Titled  ‘Bidi Smoking and Public Health’, it reviewed 15 studies conducted in India. It stated that bidi smoking poses a very high risk for cancer and in many cases bidi smokers were at greater risk for oral cancer, stomach cancer and lung cancer than non-smokers.

Ashim Sanyal, COO, Voluntary Organisation in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) said that Bidis are the most commonly used tobacco product in India, accounting for 64% of all tobacco consumption. Also Bidi’s are disproportionately consumed by the poor and contribute majorly towards the tobacco death which needs immediate attention since it is making consumers poorer. Hence law makers should put Bidis in the highest GST Rate slab to discourage its consumption and save lives.

The forthcoming 3^rdJune GST Council meeting is hence a historic fiscal opportunity the Government should utilize to prioritize it’s stated public health intentions- one of the fundamental pillars of the rate fitment exercise.

सरकार को छोटे किसानो के लिए सहायक धंधो के लिए बनाना चाहिए अलग विभाग: जगरूप

Chandigarh 30^th May:- पंजाब की कृषि और लोगों से जुड़े गाँव बारडवाल के रहने वाले सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और संगरूर सेंटरल को आपरेटिव बेंक के पूर्व डायरैकटर जगरूप  सिंह ने आज चंडीगढ़ प्रैस क्लब में पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए कहाकि पंजाब में पिछली सरकारों की ओर से किसानों को सिर्फ दिलासा ही दिया गया, जिस का नतीजा पंजाब में सैकड़ों किसानों ने आत्महत्यां की अब कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह की सरकार ने चुनाव के समय किसानों से अपना किया वायदा पूरे करने से दूर जा रही लगती है।

जगरूप सिंह ने कैप्टन सरकार को किसानों की आत्महत्यां को रोकने के लिए सुझाव देते हुए कहा कि आज के  समय की ज़रूरत है पंजाब के किसानों को जागरूक करने की किसान अब कृषि के धंधे के साथ सहायक धंधों को भी अपनाए जिस से कुछ हद तक आत्महत्यांको रोका जा सकता है। उन्होंने सुझाव दिए कि सरकार खेती बाड़ी  सोसाइटियों को अधिक सुविधायें दे जैसे खाद, कीड़ा मार दवाइयाँ और ट्रेक्टर, खेती बाड़ी सोसाइटियों के पास होनेचाहिए जिस से छोटे कृषि औजारों का सभी छोटे किसानों को ज्यादा फायदा मिल सकेऔर सरकार को छोटे  किसानों के लिए एक संयुक्त कृषि की स्कीम लानी चाहिए ।

जगरूप सिंह ने सरकार को छोटे किसानों के लिए सहायक धंधों के लिए अलग महिकमा बनाने की सलाह दी, जिस में सरकार को डेरी फार्म, मख्खी पालन, मछली पालन, बकरियाँ पालन, सूअर पालन जैसे धंधों की तरफ़  ध्यान देना चाहिए, सरकार इसके साथ हीआचार और साबुन जैसे धंधों की तरफ़ ध्यान देना चाहिए ताकि किसान कर्जों से मुक्ति पा सके।

Chandigarh 29^th May:- देश के महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी शहीद वीर सावरकर के जन्मोत्सव पर स्वयं सेवी संस्था राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा जागरण मंच (FANS) द्वारा सावरकर जी के जीवन पर भाषण प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन हल्लो माजरा के गवर्नमेंट मॉडल स्कूल में किया गया,जिसमे स्कूल के छात्र एवं छात्राओं ने इसमें हिस्सा लिया| कार्यक्रम में पंजाब के राज्यपाल के ओ एस डी स्कवाडन लीडर मयंक भक्शी ने मुख्यातिथि के रूप में हिस्सा लिया | इस अवसर परसंस्था के पंजाब, हरियाणा, हिमाचल, जम्मू एवं कश्मीर एवं चंडीगढ़ के प्रभारी दीपक जोशी एवं महामंत्री राज किशोर और स्कूल के प्रधानाचार्य साधू राम भी उपस्थित थे | भाषण प्रतियोगिता में विजयी छात्राओं को मुख्यातिथिभक्शी ने अपने करकमलों द्वारा उन्हें पुरस्कृत भी किया| इस प्रतियोगिता में कक्षा 9वी की रितु, 10वी की मनप्रीत और नंदिनी क्रमश प्रथम द्वितीय एवं तृतीय स्थानों पर रही |

उपस्थित स्कूल के छात्रों एवं छात्राओं को संबोधित करते हुए स्कवाडन लीडर मयंक भक्शी ने कहा कि ये हमारा सौभाग्य है कि हमने ऐसे देश की धरती पर जन्म लिया है जिस धरती पर महानस्वंत्रता सेनानियोंने अपनी प्राणों को न्योछावर कर हमें आजादी दिलवाई और जीवन बलिदान के उपरान्त भी हमारे लिएप्रेरणा स्रोत साबित हुए हैं | ऐसे महान देशभक्तों में वीर सावरकर जी ने भी अपने प्राणों की आहुति देकर देश को आजाद करवाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है जिसेहम सभी और हमारी आने वाली पीढ़ी युगों युगोंतक याद रखेगी | आज हमें जरूरत है देश के महानसपूतों की कुर्बानियों को स्मरण करने की वरना उनकी दास्तान किसी अंधियारे में छुप जाएगी और हमारी भावी पीढ़ी इस से वंचित रह जाएगी | जिस प्रकार से संस्था ने समय समय पर देशभक्ति के कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन कर जन अलख जगाई है ये वास्तव में एक  महान कार्य है | हमारे देश के शहीद कहीं गुमनाम इतिहास में खो न जाये इस धेय्य के साथ संस्था अपने कार्यों को अंजाम दे रही है ऐसी संस्था और इस से जुड़े लोग बधाई की पात्र हैं जो इस मिशन में दिन रात लगे हुए हैं |

उन्होंने कहा कि ठीक उसी प्रकार से संस्था ने चंडीगढ़ में किये जाने वाले कार्यों को भी जनता के समक्ष रखने और लोगों को उस से अवगत कराने के लिए रोडमैप तैयार किया है | उन्होंने कहा कि देश के स्वतंत्रा सेनानी सुभाष चन्द्र बोस के साहसिक कार्यों को तो सभी लोग बेहतर जानते हैं परन्तु संस्था ने उनके द्वारा 1943 में अंडमान एवं निकोबार में तिरंगा झंडा फ़हराने वाले दिवस को राष्ट्रीय दिवस घोषित करवाया और हर वर्ष उस दिन अंडमान और निकोबार में राष्ट्रीय अवकाश की भी घोषणा करवाई साथ ही उन्होंने कहा कि दिवस को ऐतिहासिक स्मरण से जोड़ते हुए प्रति वर्ष 29 दिसम्बर से लेकर 2 जनवरी तक “ स्वराज दीप समूह नमन यात्रा” का आयोजन किया जाता है जिसमे देशवासी हजारों की संख्या में अंडमान एवं निकोबार में जाकर उन लोगो को श्रदांजलि अर्पित करते हैं जिन्होंने देश की आजादी के लिए अपने प्राण न्योछावर किये |

Chandigarh 29^th May:- Famous for his roles in movies like Fateh and The Mastermind Jinda Sukha, actor Nav Bajwa who is a heartthrob of many, has officially released the first look of his upcoming Pollywood film titled ‘Raduaaa’.

Produced under the banners of Nav bajwa films and AK Productions, the actor has promised that this flick is one of its own kinds in the timeline of Punjabi film industry. On this occasion, renowned actor B.N. Sharma, Nav Bajwa along with producer Anup Kumar was present at the launch.

Telling more about the movie actor Nav Bajwa as a director and lead actor in the movie said that he is all set to direct his second movie after Ishquaa. Raduaaa is the first ever Punjabi science fiction movie which is based on Steven Hopkin’s time and travel theory in which the movie characters are traveling from 2017 to 1955 through a radio almost 62 years backward in time and trying to help the village in various ways by their technical knowledge of 2017. The movie has a different storyline with a different character that audience will surely adore. Along with me in a lead role, Gurpreet Ghuggi, there are many more known faces who will act in this movie like BN Sharma and Satinder Satti.

Nav also shared that we are specially taking care of entertainment and enjoyment for every age group specially kids, youngster and families. Dikshantites Show Talent in Dance & Drama Competition

Chandigarh 27^th May:- Dikshant International & Global Schools’ first major event of the new academic session, the Inter House Drama , Music and Folk Dance Competition was organized successfully at Yavanika Open Air Theatre. The Chief Guests were Sanjeev Kumar Bajaj , Circle Head, PNB and Amar Kaushik , a noted director whose short film ‘Aaba’ has recently won several prestigious national and international awards .The film won the best short fiction film at the 64th National Film Awards, Best Screenplay at the 7th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival and ‘Best short film’ at prestigious international film festivals including New York Indian Film Festival, Berlinale, IIFLA,LA and Aspen Shortfest. ‘Aaba’ was screened at the venue for the first time in India. The film has been produced by the Chairman of Dikshant Group of Schools, Mitul Dikshit.

Meanwhile the Dance & Drama competition was judged by eminent theatre actor Parvesh Sethi and senior journalist  Shayeda Bano. Students of Dikshant International School (DIS) displayed their talent in an intense competition between the four houses. The singing competition comprised renditions of iconic songs by artists ranging from John Denver to Cliff Richard. The plays enacted were The Dear Departed by Stanley Houghton, Heavenly Express by Sharon Kay Chatwell, Debit and Credit by August Strindberg, and The Model Millionaire by Oscar Wilde. The folk dances reflected the rich legacy of culture across India. Manipuri, Kashmiri, South Indian and Lavani dance performances were imbued with grace. Interspersed in between were; heart winning performances by students of Dikshant Global School (DGS).

Sanjeev Kumar Bajaj addressed the audience at the end and appreciated the students’ effort in putting up the show; Amar Kaushik said that it was a pleasure to behold such spectacular performances.

Ramadhan App Launched by JK Students of Aryans Colleges

Chandigarh 27^th May:- Once again the JK students of Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh have come up with a new Innovative Idea in the interest of Muslim community of JK.

Aryans JK students developed Ramadhan App. Developed by a group of four JK girls of Computer science branch of Aryans College of Engineering, an android based app of 3.0 version christened as “Ramadhan App developed by Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh” would now help to solve the problem of Muslim community during Ramadhan for their fasting. The app featured an automatic alarm which would buzz in the morning at Sehar time to awake them and in evening at the Iftar time to remind them for their meals. The app is available on Google Play Store.

B. Tech students Mehwish Rashid & Bisma Parveen who hail from Srinagar while Pooja Safaya and Mansi Salaria who hail from Jammu have set a true example of Religious Beliefs, universal brotherhood and respect for the religion of each other by developing this app which would help the entire community for time Management.

Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group said that Aryans has always motivated its students for the innovations and work on live projects which could bring a revolution in them and the society. He said that Kashmiri students possess the instinct to work in this direction and hence they have always been supported for their ideas.

Mehwish Rashid & Bisma Parveen while interacting with the media said that as the computer science students we have tried to implement our knowledge to solve the problem of those Muslim people who find tough to match the variations in sehar time in the auspicious month of Ramadan due to various physical or biological factors.

Pooja Safaya and Mansi Salaria while speaking said that it was tough to work on such a big project for a large community in a short time period but we were fully guided, motivated and supported financially by the College Management without the help of which this project could be a dream for us. “We have developed this app in 72 hours. They added that though it’s a small initiative from our side but we aim to add Azaan prayer along with the alarm. In the beginning the app would work according to location of JK but in next few days it will work according to the location of entire Globe.

It is to be mentioned that earlier to this, four major innovations done by Aryans students namely “Aryans Android App” in lieu to make campuses paper free, “Aryans Save Kashmir App” which was developed for the rescue operation at the time of floods in Kashmir, “ Aryans Life Saving Glove” developed to provide timely assistance to the people prone to the risk of cardiac disease, “Aryans Safety Helmet” to provide timely first aid facility in case disaster happens at construction/ mining/ industrial sites were launched and applauded at various Government Levels and gained interest of many people.

 It is worth mentioning that Aryans has emerged as a popular destination for the JK students. Aryans is the only campus near Chandigarh outside Kashmir having majority of JK students. Generating Awareness About Health Schemes in Every House is Main Concern: Gurpreet Kaur Sapra

Chandigarh 27^th May:- To identify cervical cancer among females VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) screening of all females in the district SAS Nagar will be done to identify cervical cancer and awareness among females and teenage girls will be generated for various types of female problems. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra while addressing the Senior Medical Officer, ANMs, LHV (Lady Health Visitor) at auditorium of Punjab Health System Corporation.

Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said that since ANMs and LHVs are connected with people at village level therefore they can play a very prominent role for this. During this, Gurpreet Kaur Sapra asked Dr. Jai Singh and District development and Panchayat Oficer D. K. Saldi to generate awareness among females about VIA screening for cervical cancer with the help of village panchayats, so that every female could ensure her VIA screening. During this, she asked all ANMs to brought minimum 15 cases of VIA screening within week at nearby primary health centre. During this she also asked to ANMs, LHVs and Asha workers to generate awareness among general public at grass route level for the various health schemes.

Deputy Commissioner said that best performing ANMs will be honored on Independence Day. She further said that being aware about the self health; females could get their medical checkup regularly and could live better and healthy lives. She especially appealed the females and teenage girls to be aware about the health problems.

During this Civil Surgeon Dr. Jai Singh said that cervical cancer can be cured if it is identified at initial stages. She said that under NCD program special efforts have been done to eliminate cervical cancer at initial stages. After the VIA screening suspected cases are being diagnosed by the experts and requisite tests are also being performed. She appealed the females to approach nearby primary health centre to ensure their VIA screening for prevention of cervical cancer.

During this District Family Planning officer Dr. Usha Singla said that MHS (Menstrual Hygiene Scheme) has been implemented in 6 districts of Punjab namely Moga, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Muktsar, Mansa & Bathinda and for its implementation in district SAS Nagar, a proposal has been sent to Government of India.  Under this scheme school going teenage girls of the age group 10 to 19 years will be covered and awareness among them will be generated for health problems.
