PGI Celebrates Fifth Annual Institute Research Day

Chandigarh 07th October:- The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh celebrated the fifth Annual Institute Research Day on 7th October 2017. Prof MC Misra, Ex-Director AIIMS, New Delhi and presently Vice Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Jaipur was the Chief Guest and Prof Anil Koul, Director CSIR-IMTECH was the guest of honor.
The PGIMER, Chandigarh is one of the apex medical institutions involved in medical research since 1963, both nationally and internationally. Since inception, the Institute faculty has published over 20,000 high quality research articles in various national and international journals. Currently, the faculty of PGI publishes more than 1200 research papers every year.
In the Annual Research Day, the PGI faculty showcased their best research papers. Around 190 exemplary research papers were displayed by the faculty members. There was detailed interaction between the PGI faculty and the distinguished guests regarding their published research and the future plan and scope of the research.
Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGI, Prof Rajesh Kumar, Dean (Academics) and Prof Digambar Behera, Dean (Research) introduced the distinguished guests to the gathering. Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI spoke about the rich research heritage of the Institute. He also elaborated on various research activities, grants received and collaborations made by the faculty of the Institute in the year gone by.
Prof MC Misra addressed the gathering on a surgeon’s perspective on research and publications. He emphasized the need for teamwork, mentorship and collaboration between different departments and institutes. Prof Anil Koul articulated on the importance of translating basic research to patient care by giving the example of bedaquiline, a novel drug approved for the treatment of tuberculosis. He congratulated the PGI faculty for being able to conduct good research hand in hand with high quality patient care.
The three best published research papers each in category of Assistant Professors (Medicine- Sahajal Dhooria, Inderpaul Seghal, Tarundeep Singh; Paramedical- Sukhpal Kaur, Tulika Gupta, Rekha Hans), Associate Professor (Medicine- Ravinder Khaiwal, Dipankar De, Jaya Shukla; Surgery- S.S. Dhandapani, Nidhi Bhatia, Divya Jain; Paramedical- Ashish Jain, Anjali Aggarwal, Balvinder Mohan), Additional Professor (Medicine- Rakesh Kumar, Aman Sharma, Madhu Gupta, Sonu Goel; Surgery- Bhupesh Kumar, Jeetinder Kaur Makkar, Ramandeep Virk; Paramedical- Shalmoli Bhattacharyya, Nusrat Shafiq, Mini P. Singh) and Professor (Medicine- Kushaljit S. Sodhi, Ritesh Agarwal, Sandeep Grover; Surgery- Neerja Bharti, Babita Ghai, Suman Arora; Paramedical- MR Shivaprakash, Jyotdeep Kaur, Kusum Sharma) received awards in this ceremony.
