A plantation
drive for a green environment was organized today by the Departments of Botany
and Environmental Studies at MCM DAV College Sector 36, Chandigarh. Birendra
Choudhary, Deputy Conservator of Forests (IFS) was the chief guest for the
event.
Five thirty two saplings belonging to twenty
six medicinal plants were planted in the institution’s own Botanical garden and
nursery called Rishi Vatika. The botanical, common name and the medicinal
properties of the plants were also highlighted by the students.
A pot painting competition was organized.
Foreign students studying in the college also participated. The students and
the teachers of the respective departments adopted and planted the saplings in
the painted pots which are displayed in the greenhouse of Rishi Vatika.
The principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated
the efforts of the departments and their concern for the environment. She encouraged
students to plant more trees and motivated them to take care of the adopted
saplings.
