The B.Sc. Medical Technology course both in Laboratory and X Rays was incepted in this prestigious institute in the year 1967 in collaboration with W.H.O with Markin and Nelson Web as its first coordinators. PGIMER Chandigarh was the first institute in whole of South East Asia region which started B.Sc. Medical Technology course in para medical sciences thus churning out professionally qualified technocrats who would compete world wide as far as latest technical knowhow is concerned. It was the fore vision of Dr BK Aikat former dean of PGIMER who felt the need to start a branch of paramedical professionals who would be capable to compete with latest trends in aid of diagnosis. More importantly, the fact that this discipline is felt indispensable by one and all branches of Clinical Medicine for early and quick diagnosis of disease and shortening the stay of patient in bed. Similarly MSc Medical Technology was also started in the year 1970 in this very institute was also first of its kind which was  a major mile stone in the history of PGI. Today the field of Medical Technology  is one of the most sought after  and fastest growing profession worldwide which is associated with modern advances in medical sciences.
Till date about 1204 candidates in laboratory and about 427  in radiology including Radio diagnosis and Radiotherapy have been awarded BSc degrees apart from 135 MSc’. and 48 PhD degrees  by this institute in the field of medical technology. This is indeed a great achievement. Today we have not only graduates but also post graduates and P HDs . The achievements of its Alumni are visible at a global platform mainly due to the excellent high quality services and teaching standards and expertise maintained by the faculty and staff of medical technology.
The most gratifying part of this convention is that this year it is aimed to mark 50th year of introduction of B.Sc. Medical Technology course in PGIMER Chandigarh .Some of the alumni of the Institute are not only occupying key positions in India but also have made mark in the international scenario and have earned a name not only for themselves but also brought laurels and glory to their alma mater i.e. PGI Chandigarh. Even in academia, the accomplishment of its graduates is second to none worldwide.
This association was formed in the year 1983 and has today more than 400 life members on its rolls and all the B. Sc students are its associate members.
