PGI Director Launch Website of Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory

Chandigarh 12th June:- The Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory (EPL) in Department of Pharmacology, PGI, Chandigarh deals in Preclinical and Clinical Research has started their website for Public domain and was officially inaugurated by the Honorable Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, Chandigarh & Dr. Y.K. Gupta, Prof. & Head, Department of Pharmacology, AIIMS, New Delhi in Director’s office. All the research scholars and members working under the umbrella of Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory were also present in inauguration function, which highlight the strength and importance of this EPL and its website.
The EPL was started in 2009 in Department of Pharmacology, PGI, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Prof. Bikash Medhi. Since its inception, they had organized and carried out various work in the advancement of knowledge in drug discovery and Pharmacology. EPL is started with the mission to foster research on various unanswered research questions in different specialties like neurological conditions (epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, stroke etc.), cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, orthopedic and cancer. Other field where EPL is actively involved are drug designing by high throughput screening methods and PK-PD modeling. Dr. M Praveen Kumar in EPL has developed an android application under guidance of Prof. Bikash Medhi, which could help researchers in making protocol for various experiments.
Various programs and workshops were already being conducted by EPL since its inception in the field of Pharmacovigilance, Good Clinical Practice, Good laboratory practice etc. One of important workshop, Neurobehavioral training programme was conducted last year with an aim to develop skill among graduate and post graduate students about practical knowledge of various advanced techniques which will be useful for them for their future research career. After receiving positive response from participants, there is a strong need to start an EPL website, which could help in providing the information about what is new in the drug discovery and various training program that will be organized by EPL over a year.
The future potential of the EPL will be to encourage novel and creative approaches to basic and clinical research problems and create awareness regarding the drug development in India and abroad. EPL provides platform for students, residents and faculties to promote their carrier and ignite their innovative minds by organizing various workshops and conferences.
EPL has various national collaboration with important institutes like PGI, Punjab University, Chandigarh and NIPER, Mohali, and international collaboration with USA and France. EPL has started with believe that development of research in Nation cannot be possible without team work which means the ability to work together toward a common mission with a common vision.
