Chandigarh 16th Jan,2019:- Keeping in mind how Sports Medicine is emerging as a specialty which has a huge demand in North India, Fortis Hospital here organised the first Chandigarh Sports Medicine Course (CSMC). The objective behind was to discuss various sports injuries, their treatment and to work out solutions to the fact how Indian athletes suffer because they do not have access to world-class healthcare.
Dr. Manit Arora, an Australian Consultant Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon at Fortis Mohali, conducted the said course here today in association with Indian Medical Association (IMA) and International Society for Knowledge for Surgeons on Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty (ISKSAA).
This course was attended by stalwarts from the field of Orthopaedics and Key Sports Medicine leaders in the area. The course was enlightening for those who are working in this field, and surgical and non-surgical aspect of care was discussed in detail.
45 delegates including top PGI doctors also attended this course. The speakers from different disciplines addressed all the aspects involved in prevention of sports injuries. The course would next year be conducted in collaboration with PGI, Chandigarh, involving several doctors from PGI.
It may be recalled that Fortis Hospital, Mohali had last year announced the first dedicated “Sports injury clinic” in North India in collaboration with Abhinav Bindra. It is entirely dedicated to athletes and injuries related to sports.

Mental conditioning is the most important and many injuries can be avoided if your mind is focused. He highlighted the importance of need of sports medicine physician in various sports training centre at district/ state level.
He also spoke on Arthroscopy and its role in sports injuries. He shared that with arthroscopic procedures patients recover faster resulting in fast rehabilitation and quick return to sports. It has helped sportspersons to save their carriers which otherwise would have ended abruptly
