400 PGI Nursing Students to Be Awarded Degrees by UT Administrator

Chandigarh 24th April:- The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research will be holding 2nd convocation for National Institute of Nursing Education(NINE) on Thursday, 25th April 2019. Honorable Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of U.T., Chandigarh V.P. Singh Badnore will be the Chief Guest on this occasion. More than 400 candidates will be awarded degrees as well as silver and bronze medals to the outstanding candidates.
The Nursing Institute was established in 1964 as College of Nursing due to the foresight & concerted effort by Late Pratap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister and other distinguished medical educationists of Punjab State as a part of PGIMER & was academically affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. Since then, College of Nursing had been contributing to the quality preparation of Clinical Nurses, Nurse Educators, Nurse Administrators & researchers to provide preventive, promotive, curative & rehabilitative services to the sick or well. During the 8thfive year plan the college of nursing was upgraded to National Institute of Nursing Education in 2003 & new campus of NINE was inaugurated on 28th March, 2003 by Sushma Swaraj, the then Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare. This has been the premier Institute in North India to meet the human resources needs with regard to nurses. NINE is W.H.O collaborating center for Nursing and Midwifery since 2007. 
NINE was taken over by PGIMER in 2009 by the act of Parliament, & presently runs three courses in Nursing i.e. B.Sc. Nursing (4 years), B.Sc. Nursing Post Basic (for 2 years) and M.Sc. Nursing (2 years)in five Specialties i.e. Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing, and Medical Surgical Nursing (with super-Specialties in Cardio-vascular & Thoracic Nursing, Oncology Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Nephrology nursing, and Neuroscience Nursing) as well as Ph.D. in Nursing with intake of 93, 62, 31 students respectively every year. Hence, 155 graduates and 31 post graduates in Nursing pass out each year. It reflects the vision of its pioneers who emphasized the need for developing self-sufficiency in manpower development for hospital in all nursing specialties & super specialty for India & abroad including training of nursing teachers, administrators & researchers to meet global requirement. Faculty of NINE has strived hard to achieve the objective to provide evidence based, cost effective, safe and comprehensive quality patient care through nursing students & engage in good quality research.
