Construction Workers Should Avail Benefit of Welfare Scheme of Govt:Archna Puri

Chandigarh 28th July:- Construction workers should avail the benefit of welfare scheme initiated by Government and should ensure their registration with Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, so that maximum efforts could be ensured for facilitating them with the welfare schemes of govt. This was stated by District & Session Judge Archna Puri while addressing the program at Auditorium hall of Chandigarh University Ghrauan during distribution of registration cards to the construction workers registered with Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
District & Session Judge Archana Puri said that construction workers play a vital role for overall development of a nation and Govt. ahs initiated various welfare schemes to elevate their living standards. She said that mostly it has been observed that construction workers are not so aware about these welfare schemes due to which they are getting deprived of the benefits of welfare schemes. She urged the construction workers present in the program to promote these welfare schemes. During this she also distributed registration cards to 861 construction workers who are registered with Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
During this Assistant Labour Commissioner Mona Puri explained about the welfare schemes for construction workers and said that under scholarship scheme Rs. 3000 to 60000 for boys and Rs. 4000 to 70000 for girls including hostel expenses are being provided from class first to Post Graduation standard. She said that besides Rs. 20000/- for cremation, Rs. 3 lacs under ex-gratia scheme is being provided. Besides above, Rs. 31000/- under Shagun Scheme, Rs. 2000/- under LTC scheme, Rs. 21000/- for female pregnant worker and Rs. 800/-, 5000/- & 6000/- are being provided for spectacles, Tooth problem & for hearing aids respectively. Besides this Rs. 20000/- per year are being provided for take care of mentally challenged children of construction workers. During this Secretary District Legal Services Authority Monika Lamba further said that free legal assistance will be provided to construction workers. She said that any person having annual income less than 1.50 lacs can avail free legal assistance.
