19th April:- Department of
Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery PGIMER, Chandigarh, observed World Voice
Day for the fifth time at the institute by organizing a free voice assessment
clinic, exhibits for the general public and a skit was performed by the
students of Speech and Hearing Unit, at the Department of Otolaryngology, New
OPD block, PGIMER, from 9 am to 1 pm. The skit served
to create public awareness on various voice disorders like puberphonia, vocal
abuse by teachers, students, and singers, and oral cancers. There was also a
camp organized by the department at government model senior secondary school,
Kharar where in around 140 patients were screened for various voice problems.
Amongst the patients screened for voice problems, many individuals belonged to
the professional voice users group. Those who presented with voice problems
were referred for detailed assessment at the ENT OPD for further follow up. World Voice Day was
thus concluded with a free voice assessment & counseling regarding
appropriate evaluations, vocal hygiene program and regular voice therapy.
Counseling on vocal hygiene to maintain good vocal health and factors causing
voice disorders were briefed to the public who attended the poster sessions and
got their voice assessed at the OPD.
