KPS Rana inaugurated the surgical sessions in the morning. On the first
day, the workshop included demonstration of various basic and advanced
procedures of ENT by the faculty of department and national & international
faculty of repute. Prof Ashok Gupta demonstrated the highly advanced procedure
of cochlear implantation with minimally invasive technique. The implantation
was done in both the ears giving an advantage of Binaural hearing to the
patient

renowned Robotic surgeons were the invited guest faculty. They along with the
faculty of the department demonstrated various advanced procedures on the
robot.
The highlight of the workshop is
demonstration of robot assisted procedures which includes, live demonstration
and cadaveric demonstration. It’s for the first time in the country that
advanced robotic procedures were demonstrated on the cadavers. In order to
orient the young surgeons to the advanced technology the Simulator training was
also included. Again, its for the first time in the country that an opportunity
of Simulator training on a robot was given to delegates coming from all over
the country.
The workshop saw enthusiastic participation
by young surgeons from all the corners of the country.
These workshops go a long way in
honing the skills of young surgeons and instilling confidence in them. Also
it’s a great platform for educating general public and people working in grass
root levels regarding the different advanced treatment options for diseases
which were previously considered incurable.
The department of Otolaryngology, PGI
Chandigarh is organizing the “1st National Robotic Assisted
Head-Neck Workshop & Advanced ENT Surgical Update 2017” from 21st to
23rd April 2017. Such surgical workshops are a regular feature
with the department.
