29th December:- In what is fast turning into a flood of support for the TMC in
Punjab, Jagmeet Singh Brar inducted more AAP leaders into the TMC fold at a
press conference held in Chandigarh today. Today Manjit Singh, sector incharge
of Nawanshahr, Banga & Garhshankar and one of the leading faces of the AAP
in Doaba joined the TMC with a large number of volunteers.
Other prominent AAP
leaders to join the TMC today include Dalwinder Kaur, member of the Mahila Wing
in Mohali, Gurinder Singh of Head of AAP's SC Wing, and Baldev Singh &
Prabhjot Singh who are both Circle Incharge.
Today's exodus is being
seen as a sign of the rising revolt within the party over the delay in the
alliance with TMC by the anti-Brar lobby within the AAP.
After joining the TMC
Manjit Singh said that the efforts of grassroots workers who have fought
day and night for a 'Nawa Punjab' needs the guidance of clean leaders like
Jagmeet Singh Brar who stood strong for Punjab's interest for almost 40 years. His
colleagues and he want to carry on their work under committed leaders like him
who place Punjab above all personal ambitions. Manjit's departure is being seen
as a major setback to to AAP in the Doaba region as he had been instrumental in
setting up the party's base here. He also said that now we will work for the
greater interest of Punjab and not for the short term politics of a few people
who were using the movement for their own political gain.
Dalwinder Kaur said that
for a very long time now we have been urging our leadership to bring leaders
like Jagmeet Singh Brar to the front lines of the movement but for some reason
they have been disregarding the request of volunteers, so we have decided to
join him directly now. We are the beginning more and more will join TMC now
because issues and merit are given more value than propaganda here.
Gurinder Singh of AAP's
SC wing said that there is an increasing feeling among the SC support base of
AAP that they are being used for political gain in the same manner that
Congress and Akalis have used us in the past - we are more than a vote bank, we
need full political representation and that is why we have joined the TMC now.
Jagmeet Singh Brar made a short
statement at the event and said that the TMC is a platform for all
committed social & political activists in Punjab and the time has come for
us to bring the support we are getting into a statewide structure. He welcome his
brothers and sisters with open arms and assure them that the TMC will give them
every support possible in their mission.
He also hinted that in the coming
days the TMC will launch a statewide campaign to increase its support base and
organizational structure and said that we will be opening more offices in the
coming days and a committee will be formed to engage with likeminded people
across the state very soon. He is in touch with big names in the congress and
in the coming days they too will join the TMC.
