DHE Inaugurates Library Blog of GGSCW

Chandigarh 28th October:- Director Higher Education Chandigarh Rakesh Kumar Popli, inaugurated the Library blog of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26 , Chandigarh. The blog shares the vision and mission of the college; students will be able to access e-newspapers like The Indian Express, The Tribune, The Times of India and many more. It not only includes e-resources like N list, Directory of Open Access Journals, Directory of Open access repost, Environmental health perspective, health information and library Journal etc but also has access to old question papers and latest syllabus.
S. Gurdev Singh, President Sikh Educational Society, Col. J.S Bala, Secretary and Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi, Principal of the college were also present during the inauguration. Sh. Popli appreciated the initiative and urged the students to focus on gaining knowledge through effective use of library. He emphasized the role of teacher in nation building mentioning that “teachers are king –makers” and student must seek knowledge and values from them.
Col (Retd) J.S Bala, thanked Rakesh Kumar Popli for taking time out to be part of the event. He appreciated library staff for the initiative.


Australian Education Experts: India's Rating Upgraded Within Education Sector of Australia

Chandigarh 28th October:- Australian Education experts were in Chandigarh to hold a session on Education opportunities in Australia and how the system of education is fast converting itself into one driven by the motive of improving employability. Experts said that Australian Education Export Industry is becoming a growth engine for the country's economy.
Prof. Michael Clements, Chief Academic Officer(CAO), Australian Technology & Management College(ATMC) & Former Dean of the School of Business with the University of Sunshine Coast said that the Education Export Industry of Australia is worth a whopping 25 Billion Dollars and is showing major growth. There are 450,000 International students studying in Australia. India is the number 2 country after China in as far as number foreign students in Australia is concerned.
Prof Michael Clements is leading a delegation from Australia & he held an awareness session on Australian Education options in Chandigarh. He was accompanied by Dr Manish Malhotra, CEO, ATMC and Mr Jason Price, Director (Admissions), ATMC & Ms Sultana Khan, Business Development Director.
Dr Manish Malhotra said that Australia is open for business and is now wholeheartedly welcoming people to study there. This is evidenced by the up-gradation in assessment Level of India from Level 3 to Level 2 on the basis of Indian students doing well in higher education in Australia. The rating change for India will now make it a ’streamlined country' for the purposes of the Australian Student Visa Scheme.
It is noteworthy that the Australian Government visa scheme also known as Streamlined Student Visa Framework designates each country with a rating of 1 ,2 or 3. India’s rating has been changed from Rating 3 to a Rating 2 or 'Streamlined status'.
Dr Manish Malhotra added that we are focusing a lot on North Indian market after up-gradation of level status of India  and in this regard we are consolidating and expanding of network of Registered Agents in this region.
The Australian Education Experts said that while earlier a lot of people used to enter Australia for the sole purpose of seeking immigration by even illegal ways, now with the 'Genuine Temporary Entrant Criteria' taking shape, only genuine students are allowed. Fraud now is almost impossible to take place under the Genuine Temporary Entrant regime. Experts explained that Australia offers post study work visa for two years and there are multiple legal options to settle down in the country after completion of education & finding work in Australia.
It is noteworthy that ATMC manages the Melbourne & Sydney campuses of University of Sunshine Coast, Charles Darwin University and is a teaching location for Federation University, Australia. ATMC offers world class courses at Bachelors & Masters levels in Business & IT, but in addition have a strong emphasis on incorporating employablity skills to ensure their graduates have the ability to use their degrees in a  meaningful way.


GGSCW organizes Elocution Competition on “Relevance and Importance of Sardar Patel in Todays India”

Chandigarh 28th October:- Guru Gobind Singh College for Women sector 26, Chandigarh organized an Elocution competition on the topic “Relevance and Importance of Sardar Patel in todays India”. Sixteen students from various colleges in Chandigarh participated in the competition.
First prize was bagged by Jasleen from PGGCG-11, Second prize was won by Swarndeep from DAV-10 and the third prize went to Neymat Grewal from PGGCG-11.
Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi, Principal applauded the efforts of the participants and gave away the prizes.


PGI organizes CME cum Workshop on “Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Clinical Practice”

Chandigarh 28th October:- A one day continuing medical education (CME) program cum workshop titled “Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Clinical Practice” was organized at Lecture Theatre 1, at PGIMER Chandigarh on Saturday, 28th October 2017. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Medical Microbiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee (ASC) PGIMER, Chandigarh, WHO, ISCCM-Chandigarh (Tricity), and Tricity Doctor’s Forum (TDF). ASC plays an important role in advising the correct choice, dosage and implementing the rationale use of antibiotics.
The keynote speaker on the occasion was Prof Johan Mouton who is an authority in antibiotics in Europe and is a member of various reputed international committees. He talked about the various properties of the drug that need to be considered while giving treatment to the patients. He emphasised that if we don’t consider these properties of an antibiotic even a correct antibiotic may fail in a patient.
Prof. Gurpreet Singh, Head of Department of General Surgery and Chairperson of ASC at PGI was the organizing chairperson for the event.  Prof Arunaloke Chakrabarti, Head Dept of Medical Microbiology and Prof Pallab Ray were the organizing co-chairpersons.
Prof Gurpreet Singh informed that the principal purpose of the CME is to understand the various properties of a drug in order to make informed decisions regarding appropriate dosing recommendations. The regulatory authorities also clearly recommend the same.
Dr. Vikas Gautam from Dept. of Medical Microbiology was the organizing secretary for the CME that included dedicated sessions focussing PK-PD: Clinical implications, Emerging and re-emerging molecules, Optimising doses based on PK-PD.
A workshop on infection models was also conducted Ms Claudia Lagarde, where the participants had hands on experience on thigh and pulmonary infection models.
A slogan writing contest and quiz competition was also conducted on the occasion.
Dr Parinitha Kaza, Dr Rhimjhim Kanojia and Ms Salony Verma won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in the slogan competition.
 The winners of the Quiz competition were 1st: Dr Monika, 2nd Dr Meenal Gupta and the 3rd: Dr Arpandeep, Hariprasad and Dr Neha Jain.
Dr. Sunil Gupta-Additional Director, NCDC and Mr Bindu Madhav , CEO, NABH  took part in deliberations, besides renowned faculty from institutes such as PGIMER, Fortis and GMCH Chandigarh. More than 150 healthcare practitioners belonging to surgical specialties and intensive care units took part in the CME from both government and private sector healthcare set ups.
