Bhor Engineering Ties up With Mohali's Renewic, To Unveil Unique 'Waste to Compost' Technology in North India

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 07th June:- Problems of waste management being faced by Municipal Corporations in Urban areas of North India, are now set to become a thing of the past. A path breaking technology 'waste to compost' invented by Engineers of Pune based Bhor Engineering, was unveiled. Bhor Engineering has entered North India in collaboration with Renewic, Mohali with the technology. The technology, which comprises of different capacity electronic machines, was unveiled by Sarabjeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal  Corporation, Mohali in presence of Arvind Rajput, MD,Bhor Engineering, Pune, Amanpreet Kaur Mangat, MD, Renewic, Mohali & Parampreet Kaur, Director, Renewic., Mohali. Later A media interaction about the introduction of the new technology was also held. The technology has been brought to Chandigarh to coincide with World Environment Day celebrations & a demonstration of how waste is the actually converted onto compost using the machines, was also held.
Arvind Rajput, MD, Bhor Engineering, Pune said that the technology is already in use with government organizations like Nasik Nagar Palika, Pune Municipal Corporation , Hyderabad Municipal Corporation  and Maharashtra Vidhan Mandal among others. The technology is listed under GeM scheme of Government of India & is helping give shape to PM Modi's idea of Clean India under the banner of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
It is noteworthy that Vision Ecologica, Technext, Pacific Laboratories, Al-Futtaim Exova which are well known organizations that provide analytical data related to scientific parameters of products, have certified in their reports that the technology is Ecologically sound with a C:N ratio less than 20. The other parameters are also quite robust.
Amanpreet Kaur Mangat, MD, Renewic, Mohali said that the machines are categorized in different divisions based on capacity. These range from 2kgs till 1000 Kgs. The 2 Kgs machine converts the waste into compost in 4 hours and all others in 20 hours. The compost is odorless, Methane Gas free and Eco-friendly.
The machine can decompose biodegradable/ organic waste of households, hotels, Schools, Hospitals, Food Processing Units and in fact any organization in just 4 hours. The Eco friendly & user friendly characteristics of the technology have been instrumental in Mohali's Municipal Corporation placing an order with the manufacturers.
Arvind Rajput said that this electronic machine is a weapon to combat the alarming issue of waste management and now our target will be North India mainly Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir to help these overcome the issue of waste management.
Parampreet Kaur, Director, Renewic, Mohali said that  India produces 1,00,000 metric tonnes of waste everyday & if we look at the region just Haryana's Gurugram & Faridabad pump out 1600 tonnes of waste daily according to a report. Cleanliness needs to be maintained from grass root levels, the technology brought in by these state of the art machines will reduce the burden of Municipal Corporations and will change the scenario of managing daily household waste dramatically.
Government offices, Housing Societies, Colleges and Hospitals of Tricity which are prime generators of bio-degradable waste have adopted or are gradually on way to introduce this brand new solution to the problem of waste management.
Amanpreet Kaur sums up that these machines are a boon for agricultural sector. The compost can be used as manure in agriculture sector where it can replace the chemical fertilizers and prove to be good for the production of healthy food and also the waste crops can be converted to compost and used as manure which can reduce the smoke generated from burning of crops. Not only this, we also have got a machine which can convert waste to water which can be used for irrigation and other agricultural purposes.
The technology could well be the answer to Urban India's waste management woes. The technology has not only been adopted by Municipalities all over India but even housing societies have benefitted from this. Seems like PM Modi's 'Swachh Bharat' vision has finally received the technology that looked like a distant dream.

Removal of a Clot from Blocked Brain Artery up to 24 Hours Can Save a Patient: Dr Sandeep Sharma

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 07th June:- A complicated case of Valvular Heart Disease and brain attack was reported at Fortis Hospital, Mohali has been successfully cured, giving a new hope to treatment even after 24 hours after a patient has suffered a stroke.
Dr Sandeep Sharma, Head, Department of Neurointervention and Interventional Radiology, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, informed, Tushar, a 36-year-old man, resident of Ambala had sudden onset of paralysis (acute ischemic stroke). He belonged to a family of doctors who noticed weakness of the right side of his body when he woke up at 6 am. The panic in the family was instant. They rushed him to the nearest hospital with neurological care but were told that the clot dissolving medicine could only be administered within 4.5 hrs of the onset of stroke.
In this case, the exact time of onset was not known. Moreover, they had already spent 5 hrs in finding the right place to treat their patient. It was 11 am when a young anaesthesia doctor in the family researched and found that a study about mechanical removal of clot up to 24 hours called DIFFUSE 3, which was published on the same day, in The New England Journal of Medicine, a renowned journal in medical sciences. Not wasting any time, they shifted their patient to Chandigarh Government Hospital. They were advised to visit Department of Neurointervention at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, for clot retrieval. By the time they reached Fortis, 20 hours had lapsed.
Dr Sandeep Sharma, treated the patient. Advanced imaging, non-invasive angiography and salvageable tissue was studied and decision to remove the clot was undertaken. At midnight, the clot was removed, without requirement of anaesthesia and clogged blood vessel was opened to restore the flow into the brain. The young man made quick recovery over the next 3 days and showed no signs of any problem on the 3rd day. He was discharged with advice and on follow-up for the next two months. Even with residual patches in the brain, he has no residual occupational or physical abnormality and is doing well. His risk factors like blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle, and lipid profile have been modified and he is leading an active life.
The Neurointerventionist emphasized that it is really imperative to teach the general population that they should reach the doctor as quickly as possible and ask them regarding all the possible treatment methods recommended to treat the stroke during the initial 24 hours of an evolution of stroke.
Dr Sandeep Sharma said that a stroke also called as a ‘brain attack’, occurs when the blood flow to an area in the brain is blocked.  There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. He further informed that in the hemorrhagic stroke, there is a brain aneurysm burst or a weakened blood vessel leak (hemorrhagic), which is one of the two types of stroke.  While it is the least common of the two types of stroke; it most often results in death. Whereas, an ischemic stroke is one in which the blood vessel carrying blood to the brain is blocked by a blood clot (ischemic).
Dr Sandeep Sharma informed that a stroke is a medical emergency that needs immediate medical attention because the brain does not receive enough oxygen or nutrients, causing brain cells to die. How a person is affected by their stroke depends on where the stroke occurs in the brain and how much the brain is damaged. He further shared that the best way to prevent a stroke is through lifestyle changes, including eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, not smoking tobacco, avoiding alcohol, keeping blood pressure under control, managing diabetes and treating conditions like obstructive sleep apnea.

CTO Intervention Best option for Patients Not Fit for CABG; Experts

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 07th June:- A day-long cardiology workshop on chronic total occlusion (CTO) was held at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula on Thursday. During workshop the three CTO cases were performed by Dr Rohit Parti  and  Dr Arvind Kaul both Cardiologists along with their team under the supervision of Dr Gerald Werner from University of Frankfurt,  Main & Heidelberg- Mannheim, Germany.
Total occlusion of arteries is usually resolved through a by-pass surgery. It has been seen that due to the risks associated with surgery, patients are often reluctant of undergoing a by-pass surgery. However, with the advancement of technology, a new procedure, chronic total occlusion intervention has been invented which allows patients even with 100% one artery blockage to undergo angioplasty.
Dr Rhoti Parti said that angioplasty for CTO lesions is of immense use when patients cannot be sent for surgery due to other medical reasons or don’t fulfill the criteria to undergo CABG.
He further said that CTO intervention is one of the latest advancements in the field of interventional cardiology and has experienced significant growth in the last few years. With the adaptation and refinement of advanced techniques, including retrograde and dissection/re-entry (Please explain), there has been a significant increase in the attempts of CTO Intervention in many countries abroad, inspiring many interventional cardiologists all over the world to explore this cutting-edge field for patient benefit.
With a good success rate in India, this procedure is usually conducted on patients where only one artery is totally blocked. It is less invasive and less complicated than a by-pass surgery. The procedure can provide significant benefits to patients who have no revascularization options (i.e. patients with previous CABG who present with graft failure) or may be referred for surgery because PCI is not considered to be feasible (i.e. patients with isolated right coronary artery CTO and medically refractory angina), he maintained.
He further remarked that however, this procedure is not advised for patients of kidney failure considering the high quantity of dye used.

Now patient Can Walk Upto 1 km Within 2 Days of Knee Replacement: Dr. Vineet Sharma

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 07th June:- Knee replacement is an accepted and highly successful procedure for patients suffering from arthritis of knee joint. Recent advances in implants and surgical technique have increased the acceptability of this surgical procedure and patients are more willing to undergo the surgery these days.
One of the major fears of patients who are planning to undergo surgery is that the process of recovery after surgery can be prolonged and painful. The very fear that they will have to be on rest, or undergo prolonged physiotherapy or their family and social or professional life will get disrupted, is a major reason people postpone their surgery.
With increasing patient life-span, more and more patients above the age of 80yrs are willing to undergo knee replacement these days to enable them maintain an active lifestyle. Also more and more young patients are suffering from arthritis these days, and we are now seeing patients in the age group of 40-50 years who are candidates for knee replacement.
At Advanced Hip and Knee clinic, Chandigarh we have devised a novel technique for knee replacement via which patients can walk upto 1 km within 2 days of surgery without any pain.
While elaborating on this technique, Dr. Vineet Sharma said that with this technique, we have been able to reduce the hospital stay from 5-7 days to 1-3 days. This enables the patient to recover at the comfort of their homes and also includes major cost benefit to the patient. Early discharge also reduces the chances of hospital acquired infections. There have been no increase in complication rate or readmission rate with this technique and patient satisfaction and results are excellent.
This technique comprises of modification in the standard technique for surgery at multiple levels and includes patient education and rehab before surgery, modification in anesthesia and surgical technique and better pain control after surgery. The requirement for formal physiotherapy with this technique is minimal as patients are able to do simple exercises at their own without any difficulty.
Conventional techniques for knee replacement comprised of bed rest for weeks and physiotherapy for months. This prolonged period of rest and physiotherapy was a major mind block for many patients who were considering knee replacement. Patients used to fear this prolonged recovery phase and disruption in family social and professional life.
With our modified technique, patients can go and sit at their office or workplace comfortably within 5-7 days after surgery.
Most of the patients are able to walk with 6-8 hours of surgery and can walk without any support with 5 hours of knee replacement. Patients can climb up and down the stairs within 2 days of surgery and cal drive a car with 5-7 days of surgery.
Dr. Sharma explained that the conventional surgical technique for knee replacement puts a lot of stress on our body, particularly heart, lungs and kidney as a consequence patients feel weakness, loss of appetite and disturbed sleep for months after knee replacement. These effects can hamper the recovery of function after knee replacement surgery. A major advantage of our surgical technique is that the peri-operative period ( the time period before, during and after surgery) is so well monitored and managed that the stress on other body parts especially the heart and lungs is negligible. Thus patients with medical problems like prior angioplasty or cardiac bypass, lung disorders and old age, diabetes can undergo the procedure safely. We have a series of over 300 patients who had a history of cardiac bypass or angioplasty before knee replacement over last 11 years and have got excellent results after surgery
The recovery process has been made so comfortable and pain-free that patients don’t even feel that they have undergone a major surgery, Dr. Vineet elaborated. With most family members working these days the disruption in family and work with this novel technique is minimal. Dr. Vineet Sharma also told the media persons, that lot of patients come from abroad to undergo knee replacement at our centre and they can travel back to their native country via flight within 15 days of surgery.
Dr. Vineet Sharma said that he learnt this technique in USA between 2005-2007 and even at that time, we were discharging the patients on the evening of surgery. We have been using this technique in India since 2007 and have been very successful in reducing the hospital stay after surgery to 1-3 days. The patient acceptability of this technique is very good and over time, patients have now started demanding to go home early as they fell more comfortable and relaxed in the familiar environment of home.
