PU Holds Interactive Session of Electoral Literacy Club

Chandigarh 20th November:- The First Interactive Session of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Department of Political Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh was held here today with S.D.M. (C)- cum-AERO-Virat, S.D.M. (S) Saurabh Mishra (Joint CEO) and other Officials from U.T. Chandigarh, and students and faculty members participated in the discussion relating to Electoral Literacy Awareness.
Virat briefed the members of the Club regarding the various initiatives taken by the Election Commission of India to mainstream the Electoral Literacy in India in general and young voters in particular.  He discussed at length the functions, objectives and nomenclature of the Electoral Literacy Clubs to be opened at different levels in India.  He also briefed the students about the special electoral revision drive being carried out by the Election Commission of India from 15th -30th, November 2017 and persuaded the students to get themselves registered and also motivate others to register through various means.  He also made the students aware about the online procedure to register as voters.  A detailed presentation was given by the officials from the U.T. Chandigarh.
Dr. Navjot, Chairperson, Department of Political Science, informed that such interactions will increase awareness about electoral reforms and ELC will organize such programme on regular basis.

SG Productions organizes Auditions for Mr. and Miss Different Icons North India 2017-18 Pageant

Chandigarh 20th November:- Seeing Lifestyle of Models, we often get glimmered and begin to desire their lifestyle. But there are very few people who get an opportunity to move forward. Today's young generations focuses more on their careers from very young age and are more inclined to achieve their dreams. 3 youngsters have started a company named 'SG Productions, Events & Management' to provide platform to newcomers in the industry. Shubham Gaur, Yashika Sareen, Sheena Mittal jointly launched Mr. and Miss Different Icons North India 2017-18 Pageant whose Audition was organized in Hotel Rajshree. Peter Sodhi and Harjinder Sodhi were special guests on this occasion.
Youngsters from all over Punjab and Haryana showcased their talent in this audition. Total 40 participants gave their audition out of which 30 have been selected for the final.
SG Production owner Shubham Gour said that he himself is a model by profession and he won the title of Mr. India Exotic 2017. His production partner Yashika won Miss Tricity 2017 and Sheena Mittal is a make-up artist in the Punjabi industry. We want to bring all the new talents forward. People do not get the right platform to show their talents, so often their dreams remain incomplete. If given the right direction then youngsters can touch heights with their hard work. Keeping this wish, we have introduced this pageant whose final will be in December.
Shubham, Yashika, Sheena also took charge of Judge Panel including the Sodhi couple. Yashika said that our aim is to bring out new talent, for which we will do our best.
Shubham said that we kept the name of this pagent 'different' as we are looking for some different talent having good skills & manners. In today's participants, we were able to see 'good communication, confidence on ramp and the most important respect for elders'. He wants to give those people an opportunity to move forward, which has a sense of respect towards others. This feeling isn't often seen in the younger generation of today's age, so we want that as youth progress in their career, they retain their culture along with it.

Vihaan Wins Title in Modeling Event

Chandigarh 20th November:- 5 Year Old Vihaan Chaudhary a student of Gurukul, Sec 20, Panchkula has added yet another feather to his modeling cap. He has won the Title in the kids' section of ’Taal 2017' held in Government Home Science College, Sec 10. The event was organized by Chandigarh Art Theatre. He won the Title of the event in his age group below 8 years-- Best Walk.
It is noteworthy that Vihaan at this tender age has done more than 50 ramp walks & has won over 20 titles. He has done many Punjabi albums.
In all 200 Kids participated in the event in the age group of below 8 years. Vihaan's achievement bears significance as there was intense competition from kids older in age to him. The event also saw a dance competition being organized as part of it. The age groups of dance competition were 5 or below, 6-8 years, 9-14 years & 15-28 years.
The event was organised by Ranjit Roy from Chandigarh Art Theatre and the Judges were Ms. Prabha, an award winning dance Teacher at DAV, Mrs. Rajat Narad, a Choreographer & Amandeep Singh a finalist of India Got Talent. 


SBI Life Insurance Inaugurates its New Regional Office in Chandigarh

Chandigarh 20th November:- SBI Life Insurance, one of the most trusted private life insurers, in its effort to reinforce its presence in Chandigarh Region, today inaugurated its New Regional Office (RO) premises here. The New Regional Office, situated at SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Industrial Area, Phase -2, Chandigarh, was inaugurated by Arijit Basu, MD & CEO, SBI Life Insurance, in presence of Anil Kishora, CGM-SBI Chandigarh Circle, Mr. Ravi Krishnamurthy, President–Zone 1, SBI Life Insurance, Romesh Makkar, Regional Director, Chandigarh Region, SBI Life Insurance, along with other dignitaries from State Bank of India and SBI Life.
Along with the Regional Office inauguration, SBI Life Insurance, under its CSR initiatives, extended support to Bal Sadan, an NGO dedicated to serve the orphan and destitute children. SBI Life supported the NGO by providing infrastructure equipment that will be utilized for an ailing room made available to the girls of the NGO.
SBI Life is also extending support to Society for Rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged (SOREM), Chandigarh, which is an NGO dedicated to the cause of children with mental retardation, cerebral palsy and autism. SBI Life has contributed towards providing infrastructure equipment for the school like water cooler, projector and angle racks. This is a step towards improving the conditions for the children to study in.
Chandigarh Region reported a growth of 65.8% in its Rated Individual New Business Premium, at Rs. 248.4 Crores in YTD September FY 17-18 as compared to Rs. 149.9 Crores during the same period in YTD September FY 16-17. The Total New Business Premium also saw a spike by 32%, at Rs. 281 Crores in YTD September FY 17-18 as compared to Rs. 213 Crores during the same financial period last year.
Speaking on the occasion, Arijit Basu, MD & CEO, SBI Life Insurance, said that Chandigarh is one of the prime centers for us, the establishment of new spacious well-equipped Regional Office compliments the deepening of our presence in this region. Overall, SBI Life has been performing very well, thereby strengthening its market share and other performance parameters with an overall 48.1% growth in our Rated Individual New Business Premium for YTD Sep FY17-18 as compared with the same period last year. Workshop on “Pharmacogenomics Concludes at PGI

Chandigarh 20th November:- PGIMER Chandigarh successfully completes its first national workshop on “Pharmacogenomics using next generation sequencing” held from 13th to 15th November, 2017. Regarding this, the organizing chairman Dr. Bikash Medhi, organizing vice chairman Dr. Ajay Prakash said that the high end workshop was highly successful with participants from AIIMS (New Delhi), ICMR, JIPMER, PGIMER and other premier institutes and ranged from both Industry and academia. The workshop was inaugurated by remarkable speeches of Director PGI (Prof.) Jagat Ram, Prof. Rajesh Kumar (Dean, academics), Dr. Amitava Chakrabarti (Prof. and Head, Department of Pharmacology) and Dr. Deepak Kaul (Prof.  & Head, Department of experimental medicine and biotechnology). Organizing secretary Dr. Phulen sarma informed that the scientific sessions were quite interactive and were highly appreciated by the delegates. The topics covered were from basics of pharmacogenomics to advanced topics like next generation sequencing. There were also practical hands on session on primer designing, DNA extraction and next generation sequencing data analysis.  The workshop also formulated some recommendations regarding requirement of pharmacogenomic data for Indian population and requirement of drug herb - interaction data and pharmacogenomics of herbal drugs, which will be forwarded to Ministry of health and family welfare, Govt. Of India as recommendations. The workshop was organized as a joint initiative from Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Medical Pharmacologists Society (Research council).
