20th November:- The First Interactive Session of the Electoral Literacy Club
(ELC) of Department of Political Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh was
held here today with S.D.M. (C)- cum-AERO-Virat,
S.D.M. (S) Saurabh Mishra (Joint CEO) and other Officials from U.T. Chandigarh, and students and
faculty members participated in the discussion
relating to Electoral Literacy Awareness.
Virat briefed the members of the Club regarding the various
initiatives taken by the Election Commission of India to mainstream the
Electoral Literacy in India in general
and young voters in particular. He discussed at length the functions,
objectives and nomenclature of the Electoral
Literacy Clubs to be opened at different
levels in India. He also briefed the students about the special electoral
revision drive being carried out by the Election
Commission of India from 15th -30th, November 2017 and persuaded the students to get themselves registered
and also motivate others to
register through various means. He also made the students aware about the online procedure to register as
voters. A detailed presentation was given by the officials from the U.T. Chandigarh.
Dr. Navjot, Chairperson, Department of Political Science,
informed that such interactions will increase awareness about electoral
reforms and ELC will organize such
programme on regular basis.
