Jiva Ayurveda to Offer Free Consultation Across India During the Jiva Health Week

Chandigarh 12th Mar, 2019:- The sixth iteration of Jiva Health Week by Jiva Ayurveda will begin across all its 80 clinics in India from March 9 to 18. Around, 10K patients are expected to benefit during the health week. Jiva Ayurveda, which has one crore successful consultations to its credit is giving free consultation, discounts on wellness products and a free copy of its quarterly health magazine—Paramayu.

Chitkara University Team ‘Gully Gang’ Bags First Prize at SIH-2019

Chandigarh 12th Mar, 2019:- Chetan Kaushik, Mahesh Jindal, Rohit Gupta, Hritik Wadhwa, Yashasvi, Madhur Gupta – Team “Gully Gang” students of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Chitkara University, Punjab, won the First Prize of Rs. 50,000 in Smart India Hackathon-2019, recently concluded at Coimbatore. Their project titled “Trustee” was based on proposing a solution for storing school/university/board certificates in a decentralized way using Block chain Technology, and to give access to any organisation or any institution with the consent of an individual using multi-sign. The main motive of this project was to reduce the hassle of verifying the authenticity of any document or certificate by simplifying the process and reduce the time required to a matter of seconds. Congratulations to the winning team.
Smart India Hackathon, an initiative by MHRD Innovation Cell at the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, was a non-stop 36-hour software product development competition, where problem statements are modeled to technical students for innovative solutions. The initiative is perceived as a building block for ‘Start-up India’ campaign, crowd source solutions for improving quality of life, and providing an opportunity for the people to provide innovative solutions for problems faced by our country. Chitkara University had been selected as one of the 48 Nodal Centres for the grand finale, which saw the most innovative students from all over India competing for the final prize.


Sukh Jagraon’s Book “Talab Sach Di” Released

Chandigarh 12th Mar, 2019:- The first book by writer Sukh Jagraon “Talab Sach Di”  has been released at Press Club, Chandigarh. This book was launched by famous Punjabi singer Rupinder Handa and actor Davvy Singh.
While addressing the gathering Rupinder Handa said that Sukh Jagroan is a person who always stood for truth and his book “Talab Sach Di” is purely talk about truthfulness. Rupinder Handa addressed that people who listen our songs should also read the books and must give the honour to the writers they deserve for their literature.
While talking to Media, Sukh Jagraon said that his book is concerned about the social issues like unemployment, drug addiction and rape etc. Readers will get the chance to read the poems, stories, songs etc. This book is based on his own experience and truth. Many of the stories and poems got viral on Social Media. He said that book is published by Soorjan De Waris publication. The book will be available online, amazon as well as all the bookstores.
Aman Handa, Bhangra Caoch Gurjit Billa, Sumit Kaler, Mandeep Mandy, Gurmeet Lopon and Mani Tattoo King were also present in book release ceremony.


Director PGIMER Inaugurates Multicity Real-Time Mobile Air Quality Campaign over North India

Chandigarh 12th Mar, 2019:- Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) inaugurated the multicity summer air quality campaign jointly being conducted by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. The air quality in Haryana and Punjab will be monitored using state of the art continuous ‘Air Quality Laboratory on Wheels.’
Prof. Jagat Ram, appreciated Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, for taking the lead in ‘Air Quality and Heath’ research. He stressed that the Chandigarh and neighbouring states should be benefited from the presence of ‘Air Quality Lab on Wheels.’ Further, he added that such initiatives are needed to understand better the air pollution and its association with various diseases such as stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections to plan risks reduction measures. 
Prof. Arvind Rajwanshi, Dean, PGIMER stressed that more such collaborative steps should be taken to address issues that affect public health. Prof Arun Aggarwal, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, mentioned that air quality data generated using the mobile van could be used to create awareness about the air pollution and motivate them to curb their emissions.
Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, PGI, mentioned that multicity campaign would be useful to better understand the air quality in tier II cities and to support national clean air programme (NCAP). He added that NCAP is recently launched in January 2019 by Government of India to reduce air pollution by 20-30% in over 102 cities of India including Chandigarh by 2024. 
This air quality laboratory on wheels will conduct a week measurement in Chandigarh and is placed in Sector 25, Panjab University, Chandigarh. School Students, researchers and other interested citizen are welcome to visit and learn about air quality. 
Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Dr. Suman Mor, Panjab University, Chandigarh together with IITM, Pune are jointly coordinating this air quality monitoring campaign. This monitoring will be conducted in eight cities of Haryana and Punjab including Chandigarhto understands the relation between air quality, meteorology, and Health.

World Kidney Day to be Celebrated at PGIMER

Chandigarh 12th Mar, 2019:- The Department of Nephrology at PGIMER, Chandigarh is celebrating the World Kidney Day, a global event to raise awareness about kidney disease and its risk factors. It is celebrated on second Thursday of March every year. The theme for 2019 is ‘Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere’, a theme which proposes to have universal health coverage of kidney diseases. 
850 million people worldwide are now estimated to have kidney diseases from various causes. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes at least 2.4 million deaths per year and is now the 6th fastest growing cause of death. The theme highlights the growing burden of kidney disease and kidney health disparity and inequity worldwide. Chronic Kidney Disease is likely to be the 5th leading cause of Years of Life Lost by 2040. To tackle this issue, the Nephrology community plans to undertake several advocacy activities. The Department liaisons with the relevant stakeholders or indirectly through informal and formal professional networks.  On the occasion of WKD, the Department is organising to screening camp and multimedia awareness activities.  
A screening camp for screening of individuals for presence of kidney disease and its risk factors will be held in the New OPD complex on Ground Floor in the Physiotherapy section. An integrated approach with presence of doctors, dietician and lab personnel for doing tests under same roof for convenience of patients will be used. Last year’s camp was also a great success with >700 patients/subjects coming voluntarily to attend it. This year the Department is also organising a voluntary blood donation camp.
