Chandigarh 01st September:- Once in a while, an outstanding new talent emerges, with immeasurable promise and potential. When the talent in question also has the charisma and allure of a ‘star in the making’ it is time for us to sit up and take notice. Karanveer, who makes his mainstream movie debut opposite Parmish Verma, in Punjabi movie Rocky Mental, is such a talent–a fine actor on his way to becoming a star.
Beneath the imposing presence and ‘Greek god body’, Karan is surprisingly soft-spoken and mild-mannered-suave and articulate, yet exuding a boyish vulnerability that endears him to everyone. From his early days Karan had been pursuing his parallel passions of theater and fitness, acting in plays while also working as a fitness trainer. In 2009 he entered the Gladrags Manhunt Pageant and was declared the finalist from Chandigarh. This led to a series of modeling assignments and TV roles. His association with theatre continued and he matured as an actor, working on material from the likes of Saadat Hasan Manto, Bhagwati Charan Verma and Dharamvir Bharati. He went on to act in a few indie and short films which propelled him towards an opportunity to work with Academy Award winning director Danis Tanović (No Man's Land) on his 2014 film ‘Tigers’. The experience was a turning-point for Karan and it instilled in him a focus on meaningful roles and quality cinema. Fate works in mysterious ways. Sometimes an actor goes in search of a role and sometimes a role goes in search of an actor. Director Vikram Thori and actor Parmish Verma had a path-breaking film ready to go on floors but were held up as they could not find the right actor to play the villain. After an elusive search which lasted for months they stumbled upon an audition clip by Karan in early 2016, the decision was instantaneous, they had found their villain! Mental Facts!
Karanveer is known to be a very humble and soft spoken guy in real life , to the extent that people in his friend circle tagged him as the Gentle Giant, contrary to the character he plays in the movie . To put life to the character of Sher Gill he worked on himself specially his voice, Karanveer practiced the art of Voice Modulation for months before he dubbed his part for the movie which won him applause from the technical team. The creepiness and weight age in the dialogues is a result of his hard work , belief in Method Acting and the positive support from the writer Udai Pratap Singh Sandhu .. Karan believes that the success of any movie lies in the joint efforts of the whole team, he gives the credit to his director Vikram Thori, writer Sanjay Saini , udai pratap and his co-actors Mahabir Bhullar, Jagjit singh and Darshan Aulakh sir along with his contemporary from theater Dheeraj Kumar and Jagjeet Sandhu .

He believes that it's very important that the antagonist in movies should be good actors so that the whole theme looks balanced. You need a good villain to bring out the true heroism out of people. It's not about being hero or villain it's all about how good you bring out your character in front of the audience. He went to see rocky mental with his family and noticed people relating to the character of Maninder Shergill, he smile to himself every time he feels they hate Shergill because that's his victory as an actor. He feels blessed that people loved his work and reverted to him on his social media accounts with love and praise. Karanveer had to shred for his character in the movie, for which he lost 20 pounds in 15 days, which was the result of hardcore workouts, strict diet regimes and his dedication as an actor towards his role .The movie hit the screens on 19 august 2017 and the rest is history, as they said.

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 01st September:- School of Public Health, PGIMER and The George Institute for Global Health (TGI) in collaboration with Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, has been launched “Salt Literacy Campaign” in schools of Chandigarh in order to spread awareness and sensitize school children and their families on the harmful effects of excess salt in our diet. The pilot advocacy project will roll out in eight schools of Chandigarh and take the message of consuming less salt to school children during National Nutrition Week from September 1 to 7, 2017.
The campaign was flagged off in Government Model High School, Sector 38-D and wil spread across the rest of the schools during the week. Another sensitisation session was held at Government Model High School, Sector 42-B, Chandigarh. The sensitisation session comprised of a pictorial presentation on the harmful effects of salt consumption followed by group activities using theatre, skit, poster-making and debate. A pictorial module on salt literacy and a brochure on the campaign was launched on the occasion.
Sh. B.L Sharma, IAS, Secretary, Education, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest and Ms Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR was the Guest of Honour at the function. Others present on the occasion included Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director, The George Institute for Global Health, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dean, PGIMER and Dr. Manmeet Kaur, Additional Professor, Health Promotion, PGIMER.
While launching the initiative, B.L Sharma, IAS, Secretary, Deptt of Education, Chandigarh Administration said, the campaign was very relevant for today’s times when one-fourth of the population below 30 years is having high blood pressure. Welcoming the campaign, he said that there was a need to educate children on the need for taking good diet and follow a good lifestyle for achieving good health.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director, The George Institute for Global Health said that with this initiative, we aim to increase the knowledge of the harmful effects of salt among school children. We hope to bring about a behaviour change among the kids and indirectly also change the attitudes and behaviour of parents towards consumption of salt.
During the launch, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dean, PGIMER and Dr. Manmeet Kaur, Additional Professor, Health Promotion, PGIMER said that salt is an important component of food but over-consumption of salt leads to raised blood pressure which causes various chronic diseases like cardio-vascular disease, stroke, etc. Treatment cost is very high and therefore preventing the onset of chronic diseases is important. That is the reason we are launching this campaign to educate school children about the dangers of consuming more salt.
As part of the ‘National Nutrition Week’, the team will visit eight public schools in Chandigarh and in each school, students from 6th, 7th& 8th standard will be taught about the various aspects of consuming salt and its ill-effects.
At the launch Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR said, that the campaign was part of the Commission’s effort to spread awareness on nutrition among school children. As a child rights body, we are committed to upholding the rights of children and in that context she said that eating less salt will help children inculcate a healthy lifestyle and avoid diseases in the future.
Dr. Manmeet Kaur, Additional Professor, Health Promotion, PGIMER, while presenting the NNW Salt literacy campaign plan said that the aim of the campaign was to increase the knowledge of salt among school children and also acquaint them with practical measures to reduce salt consumption.  The campaign module, she said, was evidence-based and has been developed based on similar experience of the George Institute in China. The campaign will help children to take the message to their families.
Basis the results and the response of the pilot project, the collaborative group will scale it up and put together a one-year intervention programme for salt reduction among school children in Chandigarh.
Excess intake of sodium has been a major contributor to the rising incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases in India. Salt consumption in India is much more than the WHO recommended 5 mg/day levels and reduction in the consumption of salt requires a multi-stakeholder effort. Realizing that salt reduction in India requires a multi-stakeholder effort.  Early this year in February, the George Institute organized a salt summit in New Delhi. One of the recommendations that emerged from the summit was to tackle the unhealthy eating practices through a healthy diet and nutrition campaign that looks at health in a continuum and takes into account emerging data relating to excessive use of salt and hypertension among children.

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 01st September:- Sony SAB’s TV, Biwi aur Main is keeping the audience glued to the seats, due to its unique storyline and interesting characters. The latest character to enter the show is Child actor Spandan Chaturvedi.
Spandan will play the role of little Munni aka Shimla. Munni arrives at Rajeev’s (Karan Veer Mehra) place claiming that he is her dad i.e. Mr. Gupta. Rajeev’s wife Priya (Shruti Seth) and Amma (Madhuri Sanjeev) are amused by the girls claim.  Rajeev mentions that in the past he had met a film star named Simran in Shimla, 10 years back while shooting for a music video for which he travelled with Babuji too. He further states that they had developed a very close relationship with each other, which Priya refuses to believe.  Amma and Priya get further confused and start suspecting whether the girl belongs to Babuji (Ashok Lokhande) or Rajeev as both of them went to Shimla for the shoot and she can be any of the ‘Mr Gupta’s’ daughter. Little Munni shows Priya a video in which Rajeev is seen and claims that the man in the video is her dad. Hearing all this Priya gets suspicious and upset thinking that Munni is Simran and Rajeev’s daughter.
Commenting on the track, Spandan Chaturvedi who plays Munni said that she is very happy to be a part of TV, Biwi aur Main. Her character is very mischievous who will create a series of misunderstandings between Rajeev and Priya. What we need to wait and watch for is how and when the mystery behind Munni’s birth gets solved. Be sure not to miss it.
