‘Progressive Measures Announced in GST in Past 3 Months Have Resulted in Income from GST Revenue to Over Rs. 1 Lakh Crore’: Sanjay Malhotra-Tax Expert

Chandigarh 17th May:- Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in association with Tax and Trade Services (TTS) organized “One Day Workshop on Knowledge series on“Goods and Service Tax” here today.
The focus of session was to provide the Industry with the recent developments in GST Laws with special reference to provisions of E-Way Bill, Export Refunds, Valuation, Concept of Supply, Job Work and Reverse Charge Mechanism. Key Industries personnel from Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh along with senior officials from Central Goods & Service Tax participated in the deliberations.

Singh Regional Head-FICCI, Chandigarh and Sanjay Malhotra, Indirect Tax Expert & Practicing Company Secretary, TTS welcomed  Chief Guest Manoranjan Kaur Virk (IRS), Chief Commissioner, CGST, Chandigarh and Central Excise Zone and Rajan Dutt (IRS) Additional Commissioner(CGST)-Chief Commissioner Unit, Chandigarh.  Deepak Nanda, Managing Director- Trident Limited, who were the Guest of honor on this occasion.
Sanjay Malhotra, Indirect Tax Expert & Practicing Company Secretary, TTS and keynote speaker for technical session on “Concept of Supply”, Valuation in GST, Export Refunds and Input Tax Credit, shared in detail the benefits of various provisions of GST in the Company’s top line (Revenue) and Bottom Line (Profitability). He stated that as on date more than 12 lacs E-Way Bills are generated per day and out of which 60% are Inter-State and rest 40% being Intra-State.
Sanjay Malhotra added that the cost of various inputs have also come down due to widening of scope of “Input Tax Credit”. Progressive measures announced in GST in past 3 months have resulted in Income from GST revenue to over Rs. 1 Lac cr. in Apr’18. Provisional Input Tax Credit Refunds @ 90% of Refund amounts have been sanctioned to Exporters by various CGST Offices thus giving them relief from working capital blockage and he recommended the same to be followed by all CGST offices to help Exporters in running their business without financial crunch.
Chief Commissioner, CGST, Chandigarh and Central Excise Zone, Manoranjan Kaur Virk (IRS), advised Industry to put forth their concerns on regular basis to take up with GST Council and CBIC. She said ‘handholding’ will ameliorate the problems of the trade of assesses in the incipient stages. Help-Desks & Sewa Kendras already set up in all the offices for redressal of trade’s problems and dedicated cell of 20 officers has been constituted for seamless registration of the new GST assesses.  She further said that all officers from Commissioners to Inspectors will be accessible to the trade on telephones and e-mails; adding thatdue to focussed and concerted approach, Chandigarh Zone has been in the forefront of GST Compliance. She added that Punjab is the national leader with 93% of the eligible assessees filing the GSTR 3(B) returns followed by Himachal Pradesh at 86%, Jammu & Kashmir at 83%, against a national average of 85%.
Rajan Dutt (IRS) Additional Commissioner (CGST)-Chief Commissioner Unit, Chandigarh said CGST & Central Excise, Zone Chandigarh has left no stone unturned to make the transition to GST seamless and as far as possible, glitch free.  Each assessee of Central Excise and Service Tax in the states of Punjab, Chandigarh (U.T.), Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir has been individually contacted and informed about the procedure to migrate to the GST portal. He said almost 1100 industry outreach programmes, assessee awareness and sectoral specific interactive sessions have been conducted, besides capacity building of the of almost 4500 Officers and staff of CBEC and VAT departments of Punjab, Chandigarh (U.T.), Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Mandeep Batish (IRS), Deputy Commissioner, CGST Division Patiala (Punjab) &Dr. Nikhil Kumar Singh (IRS), Assistant Commissioner CGST Division, Baddi (H.P) was the Guest of Honor for Technical Session-II. Both senior officers addressed the concerns / grievances of Trade and Industry. Dr. Nikhil Kumar Singh took the technical session on Job Work / Reverse Charge Mechanism.
Among other senior officials present in the post lunch technical sessions were Anil Gupta (IRS), (Assistant Commissioner-CGST) Derabassi, Mohali, who have been supportive to Industry in GST transition.
G.B Singh, Regional Head-FICCI, Chandigarh stated that the regional unit shall be having GST sessions on monthly basis to educate Trade and address / put forth their concerns to Officers of GST / GST Council on regular basis for redressal.


Seminar on “Enabling the Positive Use of Artificial Intelligence for All” Held

Chandigarh 17th May:- Enabling the positive use of Artificial Intelligence for All was the theme of WTISD-2018 program concluded at The Institution of Engineers, Sector 19, Chandigarh and it focused on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Accelerate the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SK Gupta CGM Punjab Telecom Circle, Chief Guest for the program said that in recent years there has been significant progress in AI technology, made possible by tremendous advances in contributing fields, such as Big Data, machine learning, computing power, storage capacity and cloud computing, among others. AI-based technologies are already emerging as a key component of pro active tools and applications being used to help people lead better lives by improving healthcare, education, finance, agriculture, transportation, and a wide range of other services.
Er. J.R. Garg FIE, Chairman, Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) welcomed the members and distinguished Guests.
Quarterly magazine called Ëngineers Voice published by the institution was distributed to all participants, which highlights the forgotten engineer heroes of our society the latest addition had Sardar Karnal Singh who had immensely contributed to the society building rail links, bridges and restoration of war-torn areas.
The key speakers of the program were Vivek Dua ITS, General manager BSNL who spoke at length about the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence that is going to shape our society in the near future. Also Mrs Savita Gupta Director UIET highlighted the key benefits that the technology can bring to our development programmes of the society. She shared with the audience the changes that artificial intelligence is bringing to our routine life and carefulness that we need to observe while using all the gadgets that have artificial intelligence built in.
The institution is going to have its centenary in the year 2020 and the celebrations for this will be starting soon through a series of program to be conducted countrywide .The local chapter also will be celebrating the 75th anniversary and  various programs are planned in the engineering colleges and other places in North zone.

‘Destiny Always Brings Us Together on Television’: Anup Upadhyay on Working with Soma Rathod

Television’s versatile actor Anup Upadhyay who is popularly known as Murari from Sony SAB’s Jijaji Chhat Per Hain shares a good rapport with his co-actor Soma Rathod. Their mutual respect for each other’s talent and craft helps them perform better. Call it destiny or luck, Anup Upadhyay and Soma Rathod have worked together in five shows. The onscreen duo that are currently seen as Murari and Karuna in Jijaji Chhat Per Hain have received a lot of love and appreciation throughout their journey for their roles and once again entertaining viewers with their talent.
The actors expressed their happiness on how the audience has loved their on-screen Jodi and how they have had a good time working together and generated memories.
Expressing his views on working with Soma Rathod, Anup Upadhyay a.k.a. Murari said that it’s been a great working with Soma Ji, this is our fifth show and there is a comfort level built between us that help us enhancing our performance. It will be great if we get a chance to work together in future as well.
Talking about her colleague, Soma Rathod a.k.a. Karuna mentioned that Anup Ji and I have been working together since long time and we have built a great rapport. It is really great to share the screen with people you are most comfortable with and I am looking forward working with him in future.

And we will not be wrong in saying this that now our Punjabi Film Industry’s graph is continuously going up ant it has started digging the roots by making films inspired by real stories, true incidents,, biopics and now a Film on a Sports Personality, A Hockey Player, A Young Indian Hockey Team’s Captain, Harjeet Singh Tuli and our versatile actor and a melodious singer, Ammy Virk took the responsibility of enacting Harjeet Singh Tuli, In and AS “Harjeeta” which is releasing on 18th May, 2018.
The film is made under the banners of Sizzlen Productions, Malika Productions In Association With Omjee Group Villagers Film Studio and whose Producers are Nick Bahl, Munish Sahni, Bhushan K. Chopra, Varinder Kumar and Bhagwant Virk. The Co-Producers are Rupinder Brar and Sarbjit Brar. The Director of the film is Vijay Arora. The story, screenplay and the dialogues have been written by Jagdeep Sidhu. Munish Sahni from Omjee Group who is also the Producer of the film, has taken the responsibility of releasing the film in India as wll as overseas. The star cast of the film includes Ammy Virk, Sawan Rupowali, Sameep Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Raj Jhinjer, Gurpreet K. Bhangu, Parkash Gadu, Sukhi Chahal and Jarnail Singh. The team of the film was in town today for its promotions.
Harjeeta, Ammy Virk, said that the Film is based on the remarkable true story of a underdog, who overcomes his circumstances, fights against all odds and at end, comes out as a winner. He further added  that he worked very hard for this transformation of his body shape to look like Harjeet Singh Tuli, he learnt to play the sports with the help of couple of other players and he has that niche and belief that his hard work will be appreciated by the audience as he has tried his level best to justify the character that he has played in the film.
The Producers Munish Sahni, Bhushan K. Chopra, Varinder Kumar and Bhagwant Singh also added that they are happy to make this film which is a journey of Harjeet Singh, a youngster who captained the Indian Team in 2016, Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup that went unbeaten throughout the tournament, eventually winning the Gold Medal, that too after fifteen years. They further added, the story of the film revolves around Harjeet Singh and they assured that the this film might bring some change in our Punjabi Film Industry as we as well as the audience have high hopes from this film.
The music of the film is composed by very reputed Music Director Gurmeet Singh with The Boss. The lyrics have been penned down by Kaptaan, Harmanjeet and Maninder Kailey. There are four songs in the film. We will hear the soulful and melodious voices of Ammy Virk, Mannat Noor Daler Mehndi and Prabh Gill.
