10th Edition of OPPO Times Fresh Face 2017 Comes to Chandigarh

Chandigarh 15th September:- The Times of India in collaboration with OPPO brings the 10th edition of the most coveted personality and talent hunt across colleges in India, OPPO Times Fresh Face 2017. India’s largest inter-college talent hunt contest announces round one of its auditions in Chandigarh to be held between 5th and 23rd September. Participants can audition by showcasing their talent to the jury; the theme for this edition is – What is your Fresh Factor?
The contest will take place across 14 locations in the city of Chandigarh over 18 days where collegians can showcase their talents. Participants can audition at Chandigarh Institute Of Hotel Management, Post Graduate Government College For Girls, Dr. Ambedkar Institue Of Hotel Management, Govt Home Secience College, Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Chandigarh University, MCM College For Women, University Institute Of Engineering & Technology and Inter National Institute Of Fashion Design among others as well as an open audition at a local mall in Chandigarh.
The shortlisted candidates will qualify for semifinals. The finalists will be shortlisted  post the semifinals who will then perform at the City finale and City winners will compete nationally at the Grand Finale, which will be hosted in Mumbai. The two national winners will be awarded an OPPO F3 Selfie Expert Dual Selfie Camera phone and an international trip.

SGGSC-26 Celebrates National Mathematics Day

Chandigarh 15th September:- National Mathematics Day was celebrated today by the Post Graduate Department of Mathematics, SGGS College, Chandigarh. Principal Dr. Jyoti Lamba welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. S. K. Tomar, Professor, Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Gurdev Singh Brar, I.A.S.(Retd.), President, Sikh Educational Society (SES) and Col. (Retd.) J. S. Bala, Secretary, SES presided over the inaugural session of the function. Various Students accompanied with their faculty member from other colleges also participated in the events like mathematics quiz, extempore, poster making etc.
Gurdev Singh Brar motivated the students towards academic enrichment. Dr. S. K. Tomar discussed diverse applications of mathematics in daily life. Former Principal Prof. H. S. Sohi presided over the valedictory function. Prizes were given to the winners & runner up participants. Prof. H. S. Maan, Head, Post Graduate Department of Mathematics extended vote of thanks for the successful accomplishment of the event.

Rural Development & Panchayat Celebrates 3rd Anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission

Chandigarh 15th September:- On the occasion of the launch of the 3rd Anniversary celebrations of Swachh Bharat Mission, a function was held today under the supervision of Mrs. Radhika Singh, HCS, Director Rural Development & Panchayat in village Behlana, U.T, Chandigarh which was attended by Chairperson Zila Parishad, Chairman Panchayat Samiti, Members of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti, Members of Gram Panchayats Behlana and Raipur Khurd and officials of the Department of Rural Dev. & Panchayat, local residents, students etc. In line with the theme “Swachhta Hi Sewa”, all those present took an oath on Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Director Rural Dev. & Panchayat while addressing the gathering laid stress on the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission and advised to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Govt. of India on the issue from time to time.  This was followed by a cleanliness drive to clean the village area in which everyone participated.

‘Ik Onkar-The Revolution’: A Film Based on Evils of Society

Chandigarh 15th September:- "Ik Onkar" The Revolution as a title itself portrays the message of Oneness in the society. One should lead his or her life according to the Guru’s teachings and we all will be united by love, and if we follow this only then we can establish the purest governance. Film ‘Ik Onkar’ The Revolution will show you evils like drug addiction, corruption, rape, killing and injustice prevailing in the society and will create awareness towards it. The film has been made under the banner of Nanak Films International which is directed by Aviral Raj Sharma and produced by Talwinder Singh "Musafer". The film is releasing on 3rd November 2017.
The star cast of the film includes Shavinder Mahal, Sukhdeep Singh and Harpreet Singh Pita in as a male lead and female lead role will be played by Megha Sharma. Film throws light on a few dark pages of Punjab and tried to awaken the youth, so that they stand strong against the notorious factors of the society. Also it will show the outrageous courage of a Sikh young man who raised his voice against the evils.
The director of the film Aviral Raj Sharma said that directing this film is a challenge for him as when you are directing a film which holds religious values you should be clear with facts. Though we also tried to aware people, especially the youth to come forward and fight to make the society worth living. Basically, the film will depict the story of a young man and his effort towards the betterment of the society”.
The producer of the film Talwinder Singh "Musafer" said that we have put in a lot of efforts in this film and shown the reality that prevails today. The society is full of evils and this film will create awareness towards these evil among youth and other people. He hopes the audience will like our effort and appreciate the concept and idea we tried to show through ‘Ik Onkar’.
Executive producer of the film is Harsimran Kaur and Satbir Singh Rathore. Music is given by Daler Mehndi, Sukhshinder Singh Shinda, Vikram N Vikram and Sarabjeet Singh Marwaha. Lyrics are given by Jhalman Singh Tanda, Jags Minor and Baljeet Noor. Music of the film is made under the banner of Yellow music and will be distributed globally by Globe moviez owned by Vivek Ohri.


Chandigarh Administration & Youth Innovative Society Celebrates ‘World Ozone Day’: organize Painting Competition

Chandigarh 15th September:- Department of Environment & Forests, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Environmental NGO – Youth Innovative Society celebrated ‘World Ozone Day’ on 15th September, 2017 by organizing a  Painting Competition on the theme of the day by  school students of various Schools i.e. Government Model High School, Sector-32  and St. Joseph  Sr.Sec. School, Sec.44 in the Conference Hall of Botanical Garden at Sarangpur. On this occasion, Santosh Kumar, IFS, Director Environment & CCF was the Chief Guest.
Chief Guest informed that this special day is held on September 16th to mark the day back in 1987 when the Montreal Protocol was signed. As a result, a number of special events such as talks and seminars are held in the Canadian city of Montreal on this day. The aim of this is mainly intended to spread awareness about the depletion of the Ozone Layer and search for solutions to preserve it. This year, the entire World is celebration its 30thAniversary.
After Painting Competition, Chief Guest distributed the Prizes to the winners in the Painting Competition i.e. First Awardee was Govt. School, Khuda Alisher, Second Awardee- Govt. Model Sr.Sec.School, Karsan and Third Awardee  - Govt. Girls Sr.Sec.School, Sector-20, Chandigarh.
The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts taken by various students in making very good paintings depicting various environmental issues affecting the ozone effects on environment and appreciated the efforts by YIS in making it successful. He also informed that in the last one week, many schools have organized similar functions to sensitize their students.
Among other officials who were present during the celebration were P.J.S.Dadhwal, Addl. Director Environment, Pradeep Gulia, RFO, Chandigarh and other officials of Environment and Forest Department. The function was attended by various College & School Principals, Teachers, Students, NSS Volunteers and residents of Chandigarh.

UIPS Researcher Wins Young Scientist Award in Australia

Chandigarh 15th September:- The Ph.D. Researcher, Amanpreet Kaur of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh has brought laurels to Panjab University by bagging Young Scientist Award at the 5th world congress on Controversies, Debates & Consensus in Bone, Muscle and Joint Diseases (BMJD), held from August 31-September 3, 2017 at Gold Coast, Australia. Her Research work found novelty in giving a new meaning to a very old drug, Diflunisal which would go a long way in reducing the pain of arthritic patients. Remarkably, the work was presented amongst the top-rated Rheumatologists which received an applause by given award along with prize money worth 300 AUD. The innovation related to uniquely constructed delivery platform that it provides a boosting potential to the drug molecules and therefore gave an improved, significant anti-inflammatory response. The selection of the work for Young Scientist Award is made out of hundreds of abstracts submitted worldwide. Amanpreet Kaur is pursuing her doctorate research under the guidance of Prof. O.P. Katare, Director-Research Promotion Cell and Professor of Pharmaceutics at UIPS, Panjab University. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India supported this presentation by giving Travel funding.


Governor Kicks off 15 Days “Swachhata hi Seva” Drive in Chandigarh

Chandigarh 15th September:- To make the Prime Minister’s “Swachhata hi Seva” (Cleanliness is the only service) campaign a success, V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today kicked off 15 days drive from Sector 19, Chandigarh in presence of Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, Chandigarh, Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh, Asha Jaswal, Mayor of Chandigarh, Savita Bhatti, brand ambassador, Swachh Bharat Mission, Chandigarh.
The Administrator appealed to the residents to clean their surroundings and post photographs of it. He said that this 17 days campaign will end on October, 2, which other than being Gandhi Jayanti is also the third anniversary of “Swachh Bharat Mission”. The Administrator also flagged off “Swachhata Rath” carrying all the information about “Swachhata hi Seva” and other IEC videos, pamphlets etc.
He requested the residents to ensure that the programme is effective and not just ‘symbolic’. He said that awareness in terms of instructions, demonstration and drives needs to be provided to certify that these means become part of a nationwide mind, at household and outside. Adequate individual and ecological cleanliness has a key impact on the goodwill of every city, he added.
Kirron Kher said that every citizen of Chandigarh is dedicated to influence a nationwide change and all our internal stakeholders are firm to achieve the objective that we have set to make the city beautiful Chandigarh and our country clean.
Asha Jaswal, Mayor said that this is our city and as a resident, the minute thing we can do is care for it in our individual ways. We are very firm to achieve our strong attempt to encourage the cause and we assure that we will succeed in this action of making the city aware about the behavioral change towards cleanliness.
During the programme all took “Swachhata Sapath”. The Administrator started drives from Maharshatra Bhawan, Sector 19, Govt. School Sector 18, Plaza Sector 17 and GMSH, Sector 16.
In addition to that, all the Councillors of 26 wards of MC organized similar cleanliness drives in their respective wards alongwith area residents and Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations. The drives were also organized in the Govt. offices, Hotels, Schools, Bus Stands, Religious organizations and open areas.

Purushartha, MC Commissioner, Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Senior Deputy Mayor, Saurav Mishra, and Uma Shankar Gupta, Additional Commissioners, MC, N.P. PU Grabs 7th Position in Swachhata Rankings-2017

Chandigarh 15th September:- Panjab University bagged 7th position in Government Higher Educational Institutions category in the Swachhata Rankings 2017 conducted by Ministry for Human Resource Development. The awards were presented by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar at the Swachhata Ranking Ceremony held at New Delhi on 14th September, 2017.
Prof. Seema Kapoor, Coordinator, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, who attended the ceremony, informed that among those present included Dr. V.S.Chauhan, UGC Chairman, K.K.Sharma, Secretary MHRD, VLVSS Subba Rao, Economic Advisor MHRD, R. Subrahmanyam, Additional Secretary (TE) MHRD, Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Director (Admin.) AICTE along with Vice Chancellors, Principals and faculty members of various shortlisted institutes. On the occasion, 5 District Collectors were also awarded for ensuring Open Defecation with solid & liquid waste management facility in the village adopted by them under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan programme,
Prof. Seema Kapoor added that a total of 3500 institutions participated in the Swachhta Rankings 2017 nationwide, of which 174 were shortlisted on various parameters like adequacy of toilet numbers in hostels and admin blocks, number of buildings in campus & student strength, green cover, duration of running water, water purity, facility and modernity of kitchen, apparel of kitchen & serving staff, adequacy of garbage collection and its disposal system and overall cleanliness and ambience.
Col. G.S. Chadha (Retd.), Registrar, Panjab University informed that 85% weightage was given to above parameters whereas 15% weightage was given to whether the institutions have adopted any neighboring locality or village to spread awareness and activities in Swachhta. He conveyed that PU  adopted 5 U.T. villages under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, namely Khuda Lahora, Khuda Ali Sher, Sarangpur, Dadu Majra and Dhanas in 2015 and a number of PU departments are actively involved in the extension activities and are regularly conducting awareness and sensitization programmes concerning cleanliness, healthy sanitation practices, personal & domestic hygiene, safe water, usage of toilet and harmful effects of open defecation, etc.
Prof. Kapoor conveyed that MHRD minister announced during the ceremony that Swachhta Ranking exercise will be conducted every year to motivate and galvanize the institutions for achieving higher standards in cleanliness and hygiene.
VLVSS Subba Rao, Economic Advisor MHRD gave an overview of the ranking exercise and told that few more parameters will be added for next year Swachhta Ranking Exercise viz. saving water and electricity, managing waste at source, etc.
Prof. Arun Grover, Vice Chancellor congratulated all the stakeholders of Panjab University for receiving this prestigious award. He applauded the efforts of Horticulture unit in maintaining a green cover of 60.1% and for cleanliness around the campus. He also appreciated the efforts of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan committee of PU, NSS unit and various other departments, who are regularly conducting various activities like cleanliness and tree plantation drives, celebration of international/national days of importance, yoga/health/dental camps, signature campaigns/painting competitions/walkathon/street plays/lectures/workshops on various topics like cleanliness, organ donation, hand washing, sanitation, solid waste management, water pollution, skill development and digital literacy, gender equality, women empowerment, etc.


इंदसवुड फिल्म्स ने लांच की हिंदी शार्ट फ़िल्म"हिजरत"

Chandigarh 15th September:- इंदसवुड फिल्म्स ने अपनी पहली शार्ट हिंदी मोशन पिक्चर "हिजरत" को आज चंडीगढ़ प्रेस क्लब में लांच किया। फ़िल्म भारत के विभाजन पर आधारित है।
फ़िल्म के निर्देशक गुरमीत बराड़ ने बताया कि फ़िल्म एक बाप और बेटी के इर्द गिर्द घूमती है। यहाँ वो परस्थिति वश अलग हो जाते है और फ़िल्म के अंत मे उनका मिलन होता है।उन्होंने बताया कि फ़िल्म 30 मिनट की है।फ़िल्म की शूटिंग राजस्थान और फाजिल्का की विभिन्न लोकेशन पर की गई है। इसमें मुख्य भूमिका मनी बोपाराय ने निभाई है। जो कि विभिन्न टेलीविज़न धारावाहिको और एक हिंदी फिल्म "सावी" में काम कर चुकी है।फ़िल्म का संगीत संजीव कपूर ने दिया है और इसमें एकमात्र गाना मीनू पलटा ने गाया है।

Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation and Chandigarh Municipal Corporation organises Joint Cleanliness Drive

Chandigarh 15th September:- With the blessings of  Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev  Maharaj over 300 Sewadal members & devotees of the Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation (SNCF) the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh jointly  organized cleanliness drive to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission, today in Sector 25, in the ground behind the Dainik Bhaskar building.
Understanding the significance of clean environment   and surroundings, the Sant Nirankari Mission is a regular contributor to such drives, along with other activities like tree plantation and blood donation camps. The Mission organizes similar drives throughout the year in the country, in collaboration with several authorities and on its own, to spread awareness and the message of cleanliness in the society.
In this cleanliness drive, devotees from Sector 15 area and Sector 40 area contributed selflessly. Also present were Sanyojak, and the Sewadal Sanchalaks of Sectors 15 and 40. This was one of the areas cleaned today in the city, among several others.
