By Tricitynews Reporter

Chandigarh 10th July:- Asha Child Care and Development Center , Chandigarh in collaboration with Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Chapter of Neuro Developmental Pediatrics and IAP Chandigarh Branch has organized a CME on ‘Child development and neuro developmental disorders’  at hotel Hyatt  here today.  The theme of CME was ‘brain development, neuroplasticity and autism’.

The CME witnessed a unique amalgamation of pediatricians, general practitioners, clinical psychologists, school teachers, educators, therapists and officials from govt sectors in RBSK, NRHM for the first time.
The guest speakers of national and international fame took part in the CME where they discussed on child development & neuro developmental disorders, autism, learning disorders, genetic impact on behavior and development of children.
The key note speaker was Dr Samir Hasan Dalwai, the founder director of New Horizons Child Development Centre, Mumbai and president of IAP Mumbai Branch and Chairperson of IAP Chapter of Neuro Developmental Pediatrics.
Another main speaker includes, Dr Sacchidanand Kamath the founder member of the IAP Childhood Disability Group.
Speaking during occasion, the speakers said that the field of pediatric medicine is undergoing a great paradigm shift. Every pediatrician and all professionals working with children are faced with an increasing proportion of children with developmental concerns in regular office practice. It is impossible for the busy Pediatrician to keep abreast of each and every update, yet there is increasing pressure to offer the best standard of care.
Dealing with parental queries about the child's development, behavior and education is a routine for pediatricians. A Pediatrician is the cornerstone of child health care, the first port of call for a parent in distress and the final word for the management decisions for the family, speakers asserted.
Meanwhile both Dr Samir and Dr Kamath are the first pediatricians to develop national guidelines on autism and learning disability which have been presented and approved by Govt of India.

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT TO ENSURE THE RIGHTS & HONOUR OF WOMANHOOD BE UPHOLD: BRAHM MOHINDRA

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 10th July:- Max Hospital Mohali unveiled Holmium 100 watts laser Machine for first time in tricity. Although the Laser has been in use in some medical Institutions of tricity, but the highest power available was 80 Watts, with introduction of this laser, a paradigm shift is slated to take place in the health sector, as the power delivery of this laser is 100 Watts. The State-of-the-Art Laser which has been brought to the region at the initiative of Dr R S Rai, Director, Urology & Andrology (Men’s Health), Max Hospital was  unveiled by Prof S K Sharma, Former Director, PGIMER & Mr. Sandeep Dogra, Sr VP, Max Hospital, Mohali at the Hospital.
Talking to media persons here today, Dr Rai said that the machine is set to revolutionize treatment of different conditions in Urology. A major advantage of the machine is that due to its higher power it ablates (vaporises) the tissue with ease, in patients suffering from enlarged prostate or urinary bladder tumours. The low penetration of the Holmium laser makes it the ideal instrument for the treatment of bladder tumours. A special aiming beam setting allows the usage together with photo-dynamic-diagnosis under blue light illumination.
Sandeep Dogra, Sr VP, Max Hospital, Mohali said that  we have introduced a truly versatile machine which besides the discipline of Urology addresses many complex procedures in areas like Neurosurgery, ENT & Gastro - Intestinal surgery as well. At Max Hospital our endeavour is to be at the forefront of technology for the sole motive of achieving patient benefits.
It was informed that while conducting minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) the machine helps to remove small tumours or discharged material. In Larynx surgery - it really helps in laryngeal tumours because it cuts with precision causing minimal damage to vocal cords and sound box. Experts at the event said that the procedures conducted using the machine by and large, achieve complete haemostasis (Stopping of blood loss) & that it has an effective use in removal of stones by fragmenting these very easily.
Dr R S Rai  added that Prostrate removal with Holmium Laser has some major benefits Vis a Vis the traditional system without use of laser. Prostrate removal with this can be done for even patients normally considered unfit for it due to conditions like major cardiac illness, renal diseases, advanced diabetes, bleeding disorders, anticoagulant (blood thinning drugs) dependency etc. The main reason behind this is that it helps in achieving almost 0 blood loss. The Urinary flow with Laser Prostate Surgery is better & chances of recurrence are minimal.
There are multiple benefits of this laser. Patients can be discharged the very next day, it minimises blood loss & delivers good stone clearance by completely dusting off or breaking large stones in fragments.

Alleging Harassment by Vigilance Bureau, Punjab Irrigation Engineers Stage ‘Dharna’

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 10th July:- Irrigation Engineers of Punjab have opened a front against the state’s Vigilance Bureau (VB). The Joint Action Committee of Engineering Associations of Irrigation Department held a mammoth ‘Dharna’ by wearing black badges at  Hydel Building complex in Sec 18 here, in which over 1000 Engineers working in different capacities at Chandigarh & across the state participated. The Engineers held the ‘Dharna’ by wearing black badges, to show their displeasure against the state Vigilance Bureau for registering what they call fake cases against some Engineers of the Irrigation department, related to Harike head works & other places.
Er. B.P.S. Brar, President, JAC said that the Vigilance Bureau has embarked upon a highly uncalled for witch-hunt against Irrigation engineers. There have been remarkable works done by the department across Punjab. But instead of giving us appreciation for the works done, we are unnecessarily being subjected to harassment by being made scapegoats for no fault of ours. An environment of fear is prevailing; does the Government want us to stop working.
Er R.S. Buttar, General Secretary, JAC said that the Vigilance Bureau  has summoned the records of irrigation department works for the last 10 years. We question the motive behind this as it is causing harassment to the entire community. We had & are presently too simply following state government policy in implementing different projects, in an above board & transparent manner.
Er. R. P. Singh, Jt. Secretary, JAC said that we demand an immediate halt to the harassment by Vigilance Bureau. If our genuine grievance is not addressed by the Punjab Government & the vindictive attitude of Vigilance Bureau does not stop, within 72 hours, then Irrigation Engineers of the state will go on an indefinite strike.
For the time being the protesting Engineers from Chief Engineers to Junior Engineer levels, however, have decided to continue work under protest so as not to hamper the departmental works in the larger public interest.
V.S Dhindsa, President, Engineers’ Association, PWD B & R has extended full support from all Engineers of the department to Irrigation Engineers. Mandi Board Engineers right from Junior Engineers to Engineer-in-Chief have also extended full support to Irrigation Engineers. Apart from this Irrigation Engineers have received support from Engineering Departments like Public Health, Water Supply & Sanitation, Sewerage Board, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.( PSPCL)  etc. for the ‘Dharna’ & future agitation.
