West Bengal Poised to Become the Most Preferred Tourist Destination

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 23rd August:- With tourism being the priority area of the present government, there has been an overall effort to give the Tourism Department a makeover. Host of tourism specialists who promote Bengal in the international and domestic markets came on board to advise on the matter during the process. In the first step, West Bengal Tourism revealed its brand new identity- “Experience Bengal”. It is noteworthy that from the old identity the word “Beautiful” has been replaced with “Experience.”
Addressing a press conference here today, Surajit Bose, Additional Director, West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC) said that we feel it would be incorrect to identify West Bengal only with its places of attractions. Rather, visiting West Bengal is a total experience for any traveller. Along with mountains, forests and sea, the experience will include quintessential Bengali culture, cuisine, religion, handicraft, history and lifestyle. All these are nowadays considered essential parts of modern Experiential Tourism worldwide.
Surajit Bose said that after launching the new logo, West Bengal Tourism has developed completely new sets of artworks for print and outdoor and FM jingles which are in sync with the new logo. Also, a new promotional film featuring Shah Rukh Khan with shorter edits for television are in the making. Based on these artworks, West Bengal Tourism has undertaken a slew of  promotional activities, which includes  pan India Television and FM campaign, airport branding, hoarding and bus shelters and aggressive publicity through  online and the social media, to reposition the new brand to the domestic and international audience.
He added that the Government has come up with a Tourism Policy, 2016, which has laid down the action plan for development of tourism in the state. The policy has laid down  6  Primary Tourist Circuits in the state, namely- (i) Darjeeling Himalayas, (ii) Dooars foothills, (iii) Bengal Heritage, (iv) Coastal Bengal, (v) Kolkata and (vi) Sundarbans mangrove, within which 6  Primary Products have been identified.
He further explained that as the concept of Homestay is gaining ground, Government is in the process of framing a Homestay policy taking all the aspects of registration, booking, services, safety standards etc. Emphasis has been laid on improvement of infrastructure, amenities, development of PPP model and MICE tourism.
An all round initiative and effort is showing in the results. As per the MOT statistics of 2015, West Bengal has scaled up one point to become the 8th preferred destination among the domestic tourists and 6th preferred amongst the international tourists. In 2015, West Bengal recorded a tourist footfall of 7, 16, 82,950 as against 5, 04, and 15,685 in 2014.
Facebook account of West Bengal Tourism has crossed more than 7lakh Likes within a period of 2 years and is currently a shade behind Kerala and Gujarat. Efforts are on to make the official website of the Department  more clutter free, visually appealing and contemporary in look  for synergy. The website in its new form will be launched before the Festival season.
The budgetary allocation for Tourism Department has increased manifold over the years, from a meagre Rs 44 crore in 2011-12 to Rs 257 crore in 2015-16.
To attract more private investment in the hospitality sector, the new West Bengal Incentive Scheme, 2015 has been launched with some special benefits like Floor Area Ratio (FAR) relaxation and extension of tourism promotion assistance @75% of VAT for 5 years in respect of Mega projects. The projected investment in respect of 44 units which have registered under WBIS, 2008 and WBIS, 2015 combined is around Rs 1234 crores.
New units like Sinclairs  in Kalimpong and Burdwan and Lemon Tree in Purulia have already started their operations. Ambujas are coming up with two new projects, one at Digha and another at Makaibari Tea Estate. Total projected investment for units which have registered under WBIS, 2015, is around Rs 152 crore.
The use of the logo is associated with a new tagline ”The Sweetest part of India”, not only to remind Bengal’s fame and glory for sweets, but to highlight the humility and sweetness of the people in front of the international and domestic tourists. Friendliness and homeliness of the Bengalis are going to be the big USPs of the overall Bengal experience in the coming days.

Make Water from Surrounding Air:To Quench the Thirst Helps in Depleting Ground Water

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 23rd August:- The continuous depleting ground water in region is an alarm to meet the water requirement in near future. This has made State and Central Govt really concern to initiate various projects on water conservation and water recharge.
The answer to Chandigarh and Punjab water crisis, it seems, is blowing in the wind. Researchers at the Bangalore-based Scalene Energy Research Institute (SERI) have developed a Rain Tunnel - a technology that harnesses water vapour in the air and converts it into drinking water. This water is not only used for various domestic needs but also for the drinking. The organizations, water scientists, researches working on water recharge or water recycle is termed this invention as a big breakthrough. The inventors have come up with an interesting piece of machine on the principal of evaporation which will create water. The machine can create average 30 liters of drinking water in a single day.
Chandigarh Housing Board Chairman Maninder Singh Bains and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Councilor Gurbax Rawat was also present on the occasion.
While briefing the media at a press conference, Aditya Sethi from Aquaria said that there is abundance of water in our atmosphere which is estimated around 12 trillion water. We can only feel that but now this machine made possible to liquidize this moisture content in glass water. He added that just imagine doing the entire process inside a confined chamber, under a very controlled condition. Using a technology technically called Hypersonic Precipitation Radiative Evaporation (HSPRE), this is exactly what we have achieved and a new invention was born. Making rain in a chamber, collecting it, processing it and drinking it the purest form of water on the planet.
Aditya Sethi  said that Aquaria is available for domestic as well as commercial use once production begins next month, the former is capable of producing 30 liters of clean, filtered, drinking water within 24 hours (hot at 900C, room temperature, and cold at 80C). The machine is also solar energy driven and can be very handy in rural belts of the country. Work on the Rain Tunnel began four years ago at SERI, a 24-year-old organization that does research in healthcare (mainly heart disease, kidney disease and cancer); energy; water and food. The technology was also patented about one and a half years ago.
Aditya Sethi explained that the highest amount of water on the planet is in the atmosphere - 12 trillion liters. And for 3,000 years, people have been trying to tap into it via rudimentary processes-laying big tunnels, reducing the temperature using clay and collecting the condensed water. Then refrigeration technology came in, which started using condensation. He said that you freeze the air, the water condenses and you cool it down to a point where the atmospheric water is condensed and extracted. But this process needs a high amount of energy, raising the cost of the water produced. Some machines that produce the same quantity of water as the rain tunnel cost $2500, because the energy consumption and cost of operation is high.
Another variant of the machine which can really ease the misery of womenfolk for fetching water from distance is one which can produce water upto 10,000 litres.

IMSI An Answer to Sperms’ Abnormality:Dr Preeti Jindal

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 23rd August:- The Touch Clinic has come up with a new microscope machine that will allow infertility specialists to pick the best of sperms for couples interested in conceiving through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). The machine, called the Intra-Cytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI), helps magnify the image of the sperm 6000-7000 times, thereby allowing doctors to pick the best and healthiest sperms. The machine is an improvement over the earlier Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique, having the magnification capacity of 400 as opposed to 6000 of the IMSI.
Dr Preeti Jindal, Director and Recurrent Miscarriage Specialist, Infertility specialist at The Touch Clinic, Mohali, said that the machine can be a boon to childless couples, allowing them to conceive through IVF, since sperm selection is a very important part of this technique. In cases where IVF is necessary, doctors use a medical microscope attached to a computer to pick better sperms. Since the procedure of IVF is quite expensive, (Rs 80000- 1, 00,000) couples will be able to invest in the technique with better hopes of success. She further said that normally experts are able to magnify 400 times and pick up and immobilize the sperm to later make an embryo. However, even though we have a high success rate, it is not always possible to make out genetically abnormal sperms at that time in the normal process IMSI helps here.
Dr Lakhbir Dhaliwal, who along with Dr Preeti Jindal played a pivotal role in the introduction of the machine at the hospital,. Dr Preeti Jindal said that IMSI is required in severe abnormality of sperms, repeated IVF and ICSI failures and the higher magnification capacity of the IMSI technology would allow a much clearer measurement of the dimensions of the sperm, which will enhance the chances of successful fertilization. She also added that many studies have indicated that use of IMSI technique in associated with higher successful pregnancies and lower Miscarriage rate.
Dr Preeti Jindal expressed that in any IVF centre, the success rate of pregnancy is maximum 25-30 percent via normal IVF technique and then if we add ICSI, it increases by 10 to 12 percent, and we add IMSI it further increases by 10 to 15 percent. It is estimated that when compared to conventional ICSI if we use IMSI technique then one out of every third sperm which we thought is good for IVF, would be considered abnormal that means magnifying the sperm 6000 times more guarantees its credibility and helps expert to take best treatment for its patient.
