Second Lease of Life To Two Patients & Eye Sight To Two Others at PGI

Chandigarh 23rd August:- The brave heart family of deceased Bhag Singh gave the greatest gift anyone can give a second lease of life to two patients and enabling two more patients to see for the first time in their lives, thereby impacting four lives, through their selfless and magnanimous act of organ donation of their dear one, 43 year old deceased Bhag Singh, here at PGI today.
On August 13th, the deceased, a resident of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh was brought to PGI in an extremely critical condition following a intra ventricular hemorrhage and was being treated in the Neuro-Surgery department of PGI. However, despite best of the efforts by the attending doctors, Bhag Singh could not be saved and was declared brain dead on 20th August.
It was then the transplant coordinator raised the matter of organ donation with Smt. Champa Devi, wife of the deceased Bhag Singh, who gave her consent for the same, following which kidneys and corneas were retrieved from the deceased.
The family gathered around the operation theater described the deceased as a ‘kind  and benevolent man’ who always believed in helping others and  doing good for others. Champa Devi, wife of the deceased Bhag Singh said that even in his death, he has done the same what he lived for by helping the lives of four others. He will continue to live amongst us through them.
Dr. Pankaj Arora, Acting Nodal Officer, ROTTO PGI, expressing his gratitude stated that he think you develop a different level of respect for the donor family, for their spirit of unconditional love amidst their own pain. There cannot be a better teaching in humanity than organ donation. The way, Smt. Champa Devi supported the cause is very magnanimous indeed. We salute the donor family.
Sharing her experience, the transplant coordinator Ramandeep said that she think being educated herself and efforts of the attending doctors to acquaint her about the prognosis of the disease enabled Smt. Champa Devi, give consent for her husband’s organ donation braving her own tragedy.
Sarita (name changed), the daughter of one of the kidney recipients knew that the chances of her father surviving debilitating kidney ailment for long  was zero without a kidney transplant. An emotional Sarita said that her father got that chance today with a kidney transplant at PGI as a result of the courageous decision made by the brave-heart wife  of Bhag Singh.  She can’t thank the donor family enough.
