24th August:- After five recent farmer suicides,
Jagmeet Singh Brar visited the aggrieved families and strongly condemned the
callous attitude of the Akali led government and other political parties in the
matter.
Jagmeet Brar visited these families
in Bhatinda, Bhawanigarh and Kotkapura and promised legal and financial aid to
these families as part of his social reform campaign “Pehlan Punjab - Lok Hit
Abhiyan” He said that the Govt waived off loans of more than 70,000 crores for
large corporate houses but is sleeping on the daily suicides of farmers. Why
don’t they pass an ordinance to stop banks & lenders from taking over
homes & land from these poor farmers; how many more widows and orphans
will it take for them to wake up.
Jagmeet Brar attacked all political
parties in Punjab and said that every party, every politician is running blind
in the power race for 2017, not one of them has shown concern for these widows
or for the future of these orphan children. He added that no Govt official has
bothered to visit these families - nobody has offered them even a rupee in
help. They announce compensation, make a headline and never look back. There
are hundreds of cases in every district where widows are running from pillar to
post for compensation. Wipe their tears before you ask for their votes.
He flayed the electoral promises of
the Congress and Akalis and said that why are they waiting for 2017 to help
these families? Why are their MPs not demanding immediate relief in Parliament;
he has been asking for an ordinance to stop land repossession for months now
not even one leader has raised the demand in Delhi. What has Harsimrat Badal
done in the cabinet? What has Capt done in Parliament? Bajwa is doing ‘Dharna
Da Drama’ outside DC offices, how many families has he helped and what has he
done in Parliament? Will Akali MPs support the ordinance demand?"
Jagmeet Brar urged NRIs and Punjabis
outside Punjab to come forward and adopt these families and help poor families
before suicides are committed “Our NRI brothers have made us proud all over the
world, it is now time for them to help in saving the villages their roots come
from.
