By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 03rd September:- Despite the continuing strike, the Institute’s administration ensured smooth running of all hospital services including emergency and OPD services with the help of regular nursing staff who reported on duty and students of National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE). The number of OPD registrations from 8am to 10.30am was 6400 which is similar to the number registered routinely on Saturdays and around100 patients were admitted in the indoor units. With regards to surgical operations, 60 surgeries were done. In order to give priority to emergency surgeries, few elective surgeries were curtailed. The Institute administration called representatives of nursing welfare association and tried to convince them to call off the strike in the larger interest of patient care. The stand of nursing associations of AIIMS, New Delhi and JIPMER, Pondicherry and other Institutes of national importance of not joining the strike was also discussed with them but they did not agree to resume their duties. In view of the above, PGI administration continues to adhere to its stance of ‘No work no pay’ for absenteeism and also contemplated further measures as per government service rules.
