Chandigarh 04th November:- The Department of Biochemistry, PGI, has organized a
symposium on “Intellectual Property Rights: Patenting in medical research” on November
4, 2016 as
Chandigarh Chapter of Association of Clinical Biochemists (ACBI) of India. The
Director, PGI, Dr. S. Varma was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony
and Dr. Jatinder K. Arora, Executive Director, Punjab State Council of Science
and Technology was
the guest of honor. The symposium was aimed to sensitize researchers for
protecting their research findings and identify which of these has potential
for translational aspects and patenting. The need of protection of intellectual
property in our educational and research institutes was discussed at length.
The participants were apprised of the process of filing patents, ecosystem of
IPR in India and the various agencies which can help in this process.
