2nd Annual Pediatric
Endocrinology Update was organized by the Department of Pediatrics at the Advanced
Pediatric Center, PGI, Chandigarh. About 80 delegates from all over the country
participated in this meeting. Prof. Meenu Singh inaugurated the CME. Eminent
endocrinologists, pediatricians and pediatric endocrinologists including Prof.
Anil Bhansali, Prof. Jayashree M, Prof. Indu Verma, Dr. Rama Walia, Dr Rakesh
Kumar and Dr Harvinder Kaur from PGI, Dr. Muralidharan from Fortis hospital,
Mohali, Dr Senthil Senniappan from Liverpool, UK, Dr Raja Padidela from
Manchester, UK and Dr Carles Gaston-Massuet from London, UK deliberated on
disorders of glucose metabolism in children. Dr. Devi Dayal, the organizing
secretary said that the focus of this CME, the second of the annual series, was
Diabetes and Hypoglycemia. The participants felt that the prevalence of
diabetes in India has increased tremendously in the past decade and concerted
efforts from governments and medical fraternity are required to stem this rise.
On this occasion, the recently formed
society named as “ACT for Diabetes”, largely managed by parents of children
with Type 1 Diabetes was launched. The aim of this society is to financially
help children with diabetes from low income families and to provide platforms
for advocacy of rights of these children.
