50 kWp Rooftop Grid Tied Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant and Science Park Inaugurated

Chandigarh 15th February:- Ajay Narayan Jha, Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Clime Change, New Delh, today, inauguratesd 50 kWp Rooftop Grid tied Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant and Science Park at Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18-C, Chandigarh, in the presence of Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh and Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary (Env, Forests, S & T and Renewable Energy).
Later on while interacting with the media, Ajay Narayan Jha appreciated the efforts taken by UT Administration in developing Chandigarh as a Model Solar City. The Chief Guest took a round of the Science Park which has been established by School with financial assistance from Dept of Science & Technology and Renewable Energy at a cost of about Rs 2.0 lakh. It has lots of equipments displaying various scientific principal for easy understanding by students.
Earlier, the chief Guest visited Dhanas Lake where 10 kWp Floating Solar plants have been installed by CREST at total cost of 10.5 lakh. This solar plant is powering two fountains which are oxidizing the water of the lake and has been able to save life of lots of fishes especially in rainy season when oxygen level in lake water goes down.
The Chief Guest also visited Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Processing Plant at Daddumajra and was informed about its functioning leading to production of RDF.
Santosh Kumar, IFS, CCF & Director (Science & Technology & RE), UT Chandigarh informed that 50 kWp Rooftop SPV Power Plant has been installed by CREST (Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society) with 30% CFA from Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. The total cost of the Project is Rs.45.48 Lac which includes operation & maintenance charge for 10 years. M/s Jakson Engineers Limited, Noida is the contracting firm who has installed this Solar Power Plant. The Plant shall be able to generate 60,000 kWh (units) per year.
