Bioethics Integral to Medical Research: Highlights Director PGI

Chandigarh 22nd July:- The second Bioethics Workshop was organized by Prof. K N Pathak, Chairman and Dr. Vikas Gautam, Convener, to apprise the delegates about the mandate, role and activities being undertaken by the Committee to promote ethics in medical research. The Bioethics Workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI as the Chief Guest. Considering it a very significant subject, Prof. Jagat Ram complimented Institutional Ethics Committee for their initiatives for ‘putting the right thought’ regarding the ethical aspects of medical research and assured them of his full support to further centre-stage this subject. The director stressed on inculcating the set of values including the respect for autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice among the medical fraternity.
The topics deliberated during the Workshop included Medical Education & Research Cell, IEC (intramural), Institutional Committee on Stem Cell Research, IEC (extramural), Research Review Committee, Data Safety Monitoring Committee, Institute Animal Ethics Committee.  The experts who deliberated and came out with significant recommendations included Dr. Arnab Pal, Dr. Nandita Kakkar, Dr. Neelam Marwaha, Dr. Vikas Gautam, Dr. Savita Kumari, Dr. Nusrat Shafiq and Prof. Sunil K. Arora.
