28th July:- The 4th edition of CII-Northern Region
Inter Industry Competition on Environment, Health and Safety Management (EHS) was organized from 27-28 July 2017 at Gurugram
to acknowledge the vision and exemplary commitment of the companies towards
environmental responsibility, concern for occupational health and safety of
employees and society as a whole.
Highlighting
the contribution of EHS, Shikhar
Jain, Principal Counsellor, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable
Development & jury member for the competition said such
competitions encourage the development of a continuous improvement culture in
organizations and brings out all the innovative work that organizations are
doing in this vital area of operations. He added apart from creating a
network of excellence and best practices the best performers will be recognized
by CII.
Explaining the importance of
EHS, Dr Yogendra K Saxena, EHS,
CSR, Biodiversity and Sustainability consultant, & Former Chief
Sustainability Officer, Tata Power Co Ltd & jury member for the
competition expressed that EHS Management is very important for compliances and
sustainability of the facility.
Dr Manish
Chandekar, empanelled Consultant, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable
Development & Jury
member said that corporate need to focus further on supply chain management
especially compliance management. Stringent EHS regulations may pose a serious
threat and organisational risks, if compliances are not met. EHS, hence, shall
be considered as business strategy and EHS Management as strategic step.
Dr
Yogendra K Saxena also gave away the trophies to
the winning teams, Federal Mougal won
the trophy for the first position. Udaipur Cement Works emerged as the 1st
Runner-up followed by Afcon Infrastructure as the 2nd Runner-up. Consolation
prizes were bagged by Renew Power, Denso India, GKN Driveline, Daruhera &
Bosch.
Saint
Gobain won special recognition trophy for innovations in EHS practices, Subros
won Best Environment Initiative trophy and Best Safety Management trophy was
bagged by ITC Packaging & Printing Division, Haridwar.
20 EHS teams from 18 organisations
with strong commitments towards Environment, Health & Safety

The programme was also attended by
delegates from various companies to get inputs and better understanding of best
practices on EHS.
