CBI Special Court Sentence 10 Year of Jail to Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Chandigarh 28th August:- Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 10 years in jail and fine of Rs. 65000/- by a special CBI court Judge Jagdeep Singh on Monday. The Dera chief apparently sobbed in the courtroom as he begged to be treated leniently and asked to be forgiven. After sentence started crying and sat on floor for several minutes. He was carried out by the the staff of Rohtak Jail personals. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh gave so many excuses for mercy but all in vain. The CBI special court Judge gave 10-10 minutes to the both the counsel for the arguments.
During the arguments before the sentencing, the prosecution said no leniency should be shown and demanded the maximum sentence for Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The defence argued that the Dera chief is a social worker who has worked for the welfare of people, so judge should take a lenient view.
Immediately after the sentencing, the Dera chief was taken in for a medical examination, after which he will be given a jail uniform and allotted a cell in jail.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim was on Friday ruled guilty of rape by the special CBI court in Panchkula, Haryana. He was immediately taken into judicial custody but his followers in Haryana and Punjab went on the rampage resulting in the death of 38 people and crores of damage to public property.
