28th August:- Rape
convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim
Singh was
sentenced to 10 years in jail and fine of Rs. 65000/- by a special CBI court Judge Jagdeep
Singh on
Monday. The Dera chief apparently sobbed in the courtroom as
he begged to be treated leniently and asked to be forgiven. After
sentence started crying and sat on floor for several minutes. He was carried
out by the the staff of Rohtak Jail personals. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh gave so
many excuses for mercy but all in vain. The CBI special court Judge gave 10-10
minutes to the both the counsel for the arguments.
During
the arguments before the sentencing, the prosecution said no leniency should be
shown and demanded the maximum sentence for Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The defence
argued that the Dera chief is a social worker who has worked for the welfare of
people, so judge should take a lenient view.
Immediately
after the sentencing, the Dera chief was taken in for a medical examination,
after which he will be given a jail uniform and allotted a cell in jail.
