Society under the aegis of District Magistrate/Collector, Chandigarh
Administration organized a Child Beggar rescue drive at
traffic light points sector 34/35, Elante Mall , traffic lights of Sector
34/ 33/ 22 , and near sector 20 Jama Masjid Chandigarh.
A total
of 6 children ( 3 boys and 3 girls ) were rescued in the drive,
who have been provided with temporary shelter after
filing of DDR and medical checkup with orders of Child Welfare committee until
further enquiry may be conducted to assess the background of children and their
families. Out of 6 children 4 Children have been rescued from the Jama Masjid
sector 20 at 2:00 PM under the Category of Child beggary and 2
Children were rescued from the Elante Mall at 8:00 PM. The children were found selling products such as
ballons, other items near main gate of Elante Mall.
The
District Child Protection Society set up under the Integrated Child Protection
Scheme (ICPS) for the implementation the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection
of Children) Act 2015 and model rules 2016. It was observed during the drives
that a number of Children are seen begging and selling alms often accompanied
by the adults. District Child Protection Society will organize drives to
crackdown on forced child begging and child labour as well in the city. Further
various awareness programs are organized by the Society to create public
awareness about the Child protection issues.
The
drive was conducted by Tabhsum Khan, District Child Protection officer, Anita
Ranjan, Child Protection Officer (Non Institutional), Irshad ,
Social Worker & Anita and Rajesh Outreach Workers from the
District Child Protection Society.
