NIIFT organizes Suvyan 2019: A Display Exhibition of Creations by Textile Designing Students

Chandigarh 18th May:- The Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Mohali presented SUVYAN’19, a display exhibition to showcase the final design collection of the graduating students of Textile Design Department at Hotel Shivalik View,Chandigarh.
This final collection was a virtual reality and integration of the learning, hard work and toil of the students of textile department, who have put in their time, energy and their sense of inspired designs that has been imbibed by them during their course of study in this institute.
Three years of rigorous learning and efforts culminated at the Annual Final Collection – Suvyan’19
Through the media of colors, materials, finishes and techniques students expressed individual statements as design solutions for fabrics and home furnishing products etc. 
Vini Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. of Punjab, Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab & Chairperson, NIIFT, said that NIIFT is indeed a jewel in the crown amongst the colleges of Punjab and I am glad to know that it is producing highly skilled students who command high value in the fashion and textile sector not only in the State but in the whole country.
Manjit Singh Brar, IAS, Director of Industries and Commerce and Director General NIIFT said that every year opportunities at Suvyan are increasing and it is an excellent forum to exhibit the latest trends in textile sector as projected by the young budding textile designers of NIIFT.
This year SUVYAN showcased 55 collections by the graduating students of Textile Design Department. The collection included apparels, accessories and home furnishing products. All of the products have been designed, keeping in mind the latest, trending and unique themes that the companies demand for.
The faculty members Shweta Sharma, Head of Department Textile Design, Deepti Sharma, Navneet Kaur  played a vital role in guiding and mentoring the students so as to get a better outcome of their work. Dr. Meeta Gawri & Ms. Neeji Bansal also extended constant support.
An eminent jury was invited to evaluate the collections for the awards. The jury included art proponents, textile designers and industry experts. The  jury members were Yogesh Verma, Director, May Design Studio; Ms. Isha Kaushal, Senior Designer,May Design Studio and Sanjay Kulsheshtra, Fabric Quality Analyst, Nahar Fabrics.
Each student worked with an industrial client for a period of 5 months which lead to the development of their individual collections and exhibition of design work. These industries were Nahar Fabrics, Vardhaman, May Design, Bombay Dyeing, Orient Craft,Shahi Exports,Swayam India,Mahajan Overseas, Trident, Arvind Mills, Bombay Dyeing etc.
Speaking on the occasion K.S Brar, Director NIIFT said that Suvyan is a platform for showcasing the innovative design abilities of the textile design student. We look forward to taking advantage of this platform to attract more companies and build relationships with them.
Inderjit Singh, Registrar NIIFT said that textile industry is the core and a necessary element of garment development. It is a pleasure to help industry with trained professional in this field.
Poonam Thakur, Principal NIIFT said that NIIFT is poised to expand and enter the next level of Design education as per needs of the textile industry.
Shweta Sharma,Head of the Department, Textile Design said that Suvyan has been very close to my heart as students put in their heart and soul in creating beautiful piece of work which is ultimately recognized by the industry.
