Chandigarh 05th June:– “Conserving the environment is not just an issue anymore. It is
a survival truth. Government, institutions, organisations and
individuals need to join hands and build synergies to protect what
is left of our planet so that the future is not wiped out before it’s time for
a curtain call,” highlighted Prof.
Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER while inaugurating an impressive event
organised to mark the observance of World Environment Day 2019 at PGIMER Community Centre, Sector
24 here today.
While highlighting the importance of engagement of each one of us to
conserve the environment, he further stated that by making simple and small
changes in our daily routine like using reusable bags and containers, buying less disposable
products, turning off the lights, TV, or other electrical appliances when not
in use etc. we shall be contributing towards making the world a better place to
live. Prof. Jagat Ram
urged let us commit on this World Environment Day to cycle more and drive
less to conserve fuel and prevent auto-emission. This will be a big step
forward.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Vipin Koushal, Acting Medical Superintendent, PGIMER & Nodal
officer, ROTTO shared that considering the gravity of
environment degradation, conserving environment has to be a way of life
for all of us. Lets not limit all the environment conservation activities to
one day, instead these initiatives should be an integral part of our lives.
This is the only way to save Mother Eatrth from pre mature extinction.
The event organised by Association of Medical Social Workers, PGIMER in
collaboration with Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO)
also witnessed a plantation drive of fruit bearing trees including mango,
pomegranate, jamun by the dignitaries and the members present on this
occasion.

Saini, S.H.E. PGIMER lauded the intent
and efforts of the organisers while Ms Sudha Gupta, President,
Association of Medical Social Workers, PGIMER asserted
that the efforts would not be limited to ceremonial plantation
alone, rather these saplings would be nurtured and taken care of to ensure
their growth properly.
The saplings were procured from Forest Department Chandigarh Administration
through an NGO, Triveni. The event concluded with vote of
thanks for the dignitaries, staff of horticulture department PGIMER and all the
participants for their presence and cooperation.
