ROTTO PGIMER Launches Week Long Awareness Campaign on Organ Donation

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 01st July:- ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER launched a week long Awareness Campaign today at an impressive function organized in collaboration with Arpan, a CSR initiative of Infosys, at Infosys premises in DLF Building, Chandigarh.
The second awareness event under the Campaign was organized today by ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER in collaboration with another industry giant Mondelez India Pvt Ltd at their Baddi Unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh alongside the blood donation camp under their CSR initiative.
Engaging with corporate workforce through fun filled activities like street play, slogan writing, graffiti and signature campaign, peppering these with information about the cause, the camps at Infosys Chandigarh and Mondelez Baddi witnessed enthusiastic response with 76 pledging for Organ Donation at both the events.  The maximum queries posed to the cousellors at ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER camps  pertained to ethical practices, expenses involved, waiting list, difference between organ and body donation and the process of transplantation etc.
Detailing about the Campaign, Prof. Vipin Koushal, Nodal Officer, ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER stated that 8th July 2019 would mark the completion of 25 years since the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA) was passed in 1994 in Parliament. As the Act provides for the regulation of removal, storage and transplantation of human organs for therapeutic purposes and for the prevention of commercial dealings in human organs, the Awareness Campaign has been launched to highlight this milestone and garner enough traction for the cause of Organ Donation.
Prof. Vipin Koushal complimented Infosys Chandigarh and Mondelez India Pvt Ltd, Baddi  for their commendable initiative and said that building up focus on this altruistic and noble cause of organ donation by engaging with multiple stakeholders through these awareness campaigns will definitely help in boosting the transplantation activity in the region and thereby, saving precious lives.
While  expressing his gratitude towards ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER for supporting their CSR endeavour, Lalit Singla, Senior Project Manager, Infosys Chandigarh said that in sync with Arpan’s  ideology of ‘joy of giving’, Organ Donation also celebrates the ‘spirit of giving’ and there is no bigger gift than ‘gift of life. Lalit Singla assured of Arpan’s commitment to take forward the mandate to different locations, thereby connecting and sensitizing a large base of employees.
Endorsing the need for corporate engagement,  Lalit Singla felt that the problem of low donation rates can be overcome with enhanced awareness as knowledge is the first step towards attitudinal change..
Ajay Kumar Jena, Facility Executive, Mondelez India Pvt Ltd. Baddi,  reiterated the same sentiment as he said that it is a social responsibility and we all must join hands and synergize  to make the National Programme on Organ Donation a success as our small efforts can play a savior for those suffering from organ failure and living in constant pain.
Through the week long campaign, various infotainment and engagement activities would be organized in collaboration with religious organizations, corporate houses, educational and financial institutions, NGOs & CBOs. The aim is to reach out to a larger base of people. The campaign would culminate with a community event on 8th July celebrating the landmark of THOA 1994.
The first day of the campaign concluded with an encouraging response from corporate workforce with 76 pledging for Organ Donation.
