Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, won the prestigious CCPCR award for its exemplary
practices and initiatives in empowering its differently abled students and
children of special needs.
The award was given away by the
Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in a ceremony
organised at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 18.
Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson of the
Commission presented the Award to the School.
Established in 1987, the Special
Cell at the Bhavan Vidyalaya has been catering to the educational and social
needs of children with various educational disabilities such as Downs Syndrome,
Autism, ADHD and other multiple disorders.
Managed by a devoted team of highly
motivated and well experienced special educators, under the able guidance of
mentor, Senior Principal Ms. Vineeta Arora, the Special Cell offers inclusive
integrated education imparting basic life- skills and vocational training,
aimed at making the students emotionally and economically independent and
develop financial acumen.
A comprehensive fitness training
programme promoting physical well-being and self-esteem is also implemented
systematically during the school year. Excursions and school trips to places of
interest keep them in touch with the world outside and enable them gain
self-confidence. These special children have done the school proud through
their various achievements in various international and national sporting
events - Special Olympics, Asia Pacific Regional Games, Summer World Games
among many others.
The Special Cell at the school
currently caters to over 60 students and strives to integrate them seamlessly
with the mainstream.
