PGIMER is organizing One Day Continuing Nutrition Education Programme on 'Beat diabetes and its Complications’

Chandigarh 03^rd September:- The Department of Dietetics, PGI is celebrating Nutrition Week (1-7^th September) by organizing a one day Continuing Nutrition Education(CNE) programme on 'Beat diabetes and its complications’   under the aegis of Indian Dietetic Association, Chandigarh chapter in LT-1, Nehru Hospital PGI, Chandigarh on 4^th Sept 2016. This programme will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof Subhash Varma Dean, PGI.   

Diabetes is one of the leading non-communicable diseases and a major life style disease in the developed and developing countries. The global number of diabetic patients is expected to increase from 180 million to 350 million in the next two decades. World Health Organization has projected that diabetes will be the 7^th leading cause of death by 2030. The burden of Diabetes in developing countries continues to rise and India houses 66 million people with Diabetes Mellitus which is the 2^nd largest population of diabetic community after China. This is attributable to rising prevalence of obesity, transition to calorie-dense food and adaptation to sedentary life style.

The major complications of diabetes have been observed to be kidney failure, blindness, heart attack, stroke and lower limb amputation. Diabetes represents 30-40% of all patients receiving renal replacement therapy later in life.

Diabetes is a life-long disease which cannot be cured but it can be controlled through preventive & curative measures. A healthy lifestyle and diet promotes a healthy environment which proves to be a win over genetic factors. As diabetics are faced with the challenge of deciding what to eat or what not to eat, individual tailor-made diet plans according to age, activity and glucose levels helps to bring improvement in glycemic control to normal glucose & HbA1C levels which leads to decrease in complications of Diabetes.

This CNE will endeavor to focus on creating awareness among the masses regarding healthy lifestyle and optimum eating patterns to be adopted and thereby help to reduce the burden of the disease, improve quality of life and save resources. The esteemed speakers from PGI, Chandigarh and AIIMS, Delhi will be sharing their ideas & expertise on diabetes & its complications in this programme. Approximately 275-300 delegates from tricity as well as from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi are expected to attend the CNE program.

This CNE is a flagship event of “Beat diabetes Initiative” to bring people from different expertise together, to pledge their support for diabetes awareness.

SAB TV’s Chidiya Ghar:Prem Chopra Graces with Special Appearance

He will be playing his age with the character name of ‘Prem Prakash’. Prem has come to India to get married to an Indian girl who he has seen on a matrimonial website.

On the other hand, in a family there are three unmarried woman who haven’t been able to get married due to dowry. The eldest is a 28 year old girl, Priya who wants to help and support her family in some way. She sees Prem Prakash profile on the matrimonial website and agrees to marry him if he supports her two other sisters financially.

CBI SEARCHING RESIDENCE OF FORMER HARYANA CM BHUPINDER SINGH HOODA'S AND OTHER LOCATIONS

Chandigarh 03^rd September:- CBI swung into action after Prime Minister  Narender Remarks remarks that action against  Robert Vadra 's land deals not as revenge due to politics, CBI carries out searches at the residence of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other 19 locations in a land allotment case, which was  registered last year after formation of  BJP Govt. in Haryana led by Manohar Lal Khattar. The raids come two days after Hooda demanded that the Manohar Lal Khattar government make the Justice SN Dhingra Commission report public and accused it of indulging in 'witch-hunt' and 'sensationalising facts'."I demand that the Government make the Dhingra Commission report public soon and stop this witch-hunt and sensationalising of facts," Hooda , who was the chief minister when the deals were signed, said.In July, 2016, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had registered a case against Hooda and the Associated Journal Ltd under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a disproportionate land allotment case. When Hooda was the chief minister, he allocated the land to Associated Journal Ltd in Panchkula under wrong terms. For this land allocation, the loss for the state government revenue ran into crores.Hooda is already under CBI scanner for alleged irregularities in the allocation of industrial plots when he was chairman of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

 Searches have been conducted at the premises in Rohtak, Panchkula, Gurugram, Chandigarh and Delhi. Two of the former CM’s close aides include a serving IPS officer, whose premise was also searched. Last year, the Comptroller and Auditor General had said that undue favours were extended to private builders, including Robert Vadra’s Skylight Hospitality, by the Haryana government. 

It is alleged that the 14 plots, ranging from 496 sq.m, were allegedly allotted at throwaway prices. Those allotted the plots included Renu Hooda, Manjot Kaur, Nandita Hooda among others. All of them were related to politicians, bureaucrats and other influential people which included Hooda. Searches have been conducted at the premises in Rohtak, Panchkula, Gurugram, Chandigarh and Delhi. Two of the former CM’s close aides include a serving IPS officer, whose premise was also searched.Last year, the Comptroller and Auditor General had said “undue favours” were extended to private builders, including Robert Vadra’s Skylight Hospitality, by the Haryana government. Hooda was the chief minister of Haryana for 10 years from 2004 to 2014. The BJP and other opposition parties have accused the previous Hooda government of extending favours to the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi especially in his land deal with realty company DLF.Though the CAG report did not name Vadra, his company, Skylight Hospitality, was named. Skylight Hospitality, the report noted, sold a prime 3.5 acre piece of land in Manesar in Gurgaon district to DLF in 2008 for Rs 58 crore. Earlier, senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka had ordered the scrapping of the land deal, terming it as illegal. 

Star Chitrakaar to Bring Out Artist in Underprivileged Children

Chandigarh 03^rd September:- In an effort to nurture the talent in underprivileged children, Anu Singh, a Chandigarh based artist today announced an initiative by the name of Star Chitrakaar. Singh who is a psychologist councilor by profession, and affiliated with American Psychology Association will not only be bringing out the talent in such children but will understand their psychology through their drawings and will offer free counseling to them.

 Anu Singh has done a number of exhibitions across the country and abroad, with recent one held at Manhattan, US a few months back. A workshop was conducted today at Innov8, a co-working space for startups in Industrial Area Phase I here with over 50 children from NGO Aashray. The children belonging to underprivileged families who were provided with drawing material and were asked to draw and paint whatever they wanted to and were given lessons later after they had completed. 

While elaborating on her initiative, Anu said that she knows there is so much talent in children, but somehow they do not get a chance to pursue it. She said that she is overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and talent in these children. Star Chitrakaar is a small initiative just to encourage these children who are the bright stars around us, and just need a push and support to become the real stars in art. She would be holding such training workshops in other parts of the tricity as well at different venues and after a year plan to hold an exhibition of these children who can be stars if allowed to grow in the right direction.

Anu further stated that she has had no formal training in artwork but it was her passion to paint, which she is carrying on and will continue to do so. She is sure with support of Star Chitrakaar she will be able to produce some real artists. She would be roping in with NGOs for taking this initiative further and plan to have such workshops on a monthly basis initially and weekly later so that same set of children can be repeatedly trained and counseled.

Anu added that as a psychologist, it pains me when parents often come to me and they do not come out with the real problem. She ask the child to draw something and in small age, children draw what is there in their mind and that’s how their psychology can be understood well.

According to his fellow residents and faculty remember he was very polite and well behaved. He was sincere in carrying out his duties. A meeting was also held today evening where Dean, Faculty and Residents of the institute expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family members. His demise is a great loss to the departments and institute.

Chandigarh 02^nd September:- भारतीय जनता पार्टी और आरएसएस को उस समय बड़ा झटका लगा जब अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद तथा भाजपा और संघ से जुड़े 11 पदाधिकारियों ने कांग्रेस में शामिल होने का ऐलान किया। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गंधी व उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी की नीतियों तथा कांग्रेस के सिद्धांतों से प्रभावित होकर इन युवाओं ने कांग्रेस में शामिल होने के लिए सोनिया गांधी को पत्र भी लिखा था।

इस पत्र के बाद कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने हरियाणा के प्रदेशाध्यक्ष डॉ. अशोक तंवर को इन सभी पदाधिकारियों को कांग्रेस ज्वाइन करवाने के आदेश दिए। शुक्रवार को नई दिल्ली में डॉ. अशोक तंवर ने अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद के चंडीगढ़ के स्टेट कन्वीनर सुखजोत तथा उपाध्यक्ष सुखदेव भोरिया की अगुवाई में आए कुल 11 पदाधिकारियों को कांग्रेस की प्राथमिक सदस्यता ग्रहण करवाई। इस मौके पर पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री कुमारी सैलजा भी मौजूद रहे।

कांग्रेस प्रदेशाध्यक्ष डॉ. अशोक तंवर ने इन सभी को कांग्रेस में शामिल करवाते हुए कहा कि पार्टी में आने वाले इन युवाओं को पूरा मान-सम्मान दिया जाएगा। डॉ. तंवर ने कहा कि केंद्र की मोदी और हरियाणा की खट्टर सरकार हर मोर्चे पर विफल रही है। युवाओं को गुमराह करके और झूठ बोलकर वोट हासिल करने वाली भाजपा की पोल अब खुल चुकी है। देश के युवाओं में कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी के नेतृत्व में भरोसा है। 

प्रदेश कांग्रेसाध्यक्ष ने कहा कि जिस तरह से छात्र संघ चुनाव से ठीक पहले अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद में भगदड़ मची है उससे स्पष्ट होता है कि यूनिवर्सिटी छात्रों में भी भाजपा सरकार के प्रति आक्रोश है। छात्र संघ चुनावों में इसका फायदा कांग्रेस के छात्र संगठन एनएसयूआई और पार्टी को मिलेगा।

Nationwide Strike:Striking Employees and Workers Protested Against the Betrayal of Modi Government

Chandigarh 02^nd September:- As per the call given by Central Trade Unions and Federations, the employees and workers working din the offices of LIC, National Insurance. United India Ins., New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance. BSNL, Post Office. Govt. and UT Employees Electricity, MC Employees Horticulture, Water Supply, UT Roads, UT Safai Karamchari, Employees and Office of PSIEC observed the One day Strike today.

The striking employees and workers protested against the Betrayal of Modi Government to fulfill its promises. The Public Sector Undertakings are giving profits and filling the coffers of the Central Govt. is being handed over to the Indian and Foreign Private Houses. All Financial Institutions are being deregulated and being placed at the mercy of Foreign Corporate Houses. The Working class which was expecting employment but the rate of employment is decelerated in comparison to growth, share of wages and salary and income have been further reduced. Right to form the Trade unions and struggle are being scuttled in every possible way and it is being imposed through ordinances and with the wish of the employer upto all possibilities. Over and above the BJP rules state Govts., the Central Govt. is changing the labour laws in favor of Corporate Houses and labour rights are being denied to the workers. They are being denied minimum wages of Rs.18000 per month. Contractual system is being increased; equal wages for equal work is being denied. Not only the workers and employees are most resented against the betrayal of Morn Govt. but also other sections like Peasants, Shopkeepers, Transporters, Youths, Women and Pensioners are also hit hard by the policies of Central Govt.

The Employees and Workers protested before their offices and gathered in shape of rally near Bridge Market Sector 17 and marched through the main market, MC office, Neelam Theater, PSIDC Bhawan and bank square which culminated at LIC office. The marching employees and workers raised slogans against the policies of Modi Govt. demanding Minimum wage of Rs.18000, Stop Dismantling of Public Sector. Bonus to All. Control of Price Rise, Pension to all. Stop FD in Retail, Railway, Insurance, Bank etc. They also demanded from the Chd. Admn. not to impose 144 for employees and workers.

The rally was addressed by Corn.Rajeev Sehgal, Convener Employees Fourm, Com. Chander Shekhar, Vice-President, CIT, Com Brji Lal, President, Northen Zone Insurance Employees Association, Chandigarh, Raghbir Chand, Convener, Rajinder Katoch Co-Convener, Coordination Committee of Govt. and M.C. Employees, Com Gopal Datt Joshi, Gen. Secretary, Com. Sat Pal, Dhian Singh, Vijay Singh, Amrik Singh, Powermen Union, Com. Bhim Sen, President, of M.C. Videocon d2h Enhances Video Experiences with Cisco Virtualized Video Processing

Chandigarh 02^nd September:- Cisco today announced that Videocon d2h India’s leading DTH platform has selected the Cisco Virtual DCM® to provide its subscribers with superior video experiences. The deployment provides Videocon d2h with a flexible infrastructure and simplified operations for advanced video processing functionality taking advantage of virtualization and orchestration from Cisco’s Virtualized Video Processing (V2P) platform. The Virtual DCM provides Videocon d2h the bandwidth efficiencies to deploy new services and meet ever-increasing consumer demands for 4K, multiscreen, OTT and Cloud DVR. The Cisco Visual Networking Index Forecast 2015-2020™ predicts that by 2020, 82% of IP traffic by will be video, and 50% of IP video traffic will be HD/UHD, and mobile devices will drive most of the growth, making 43% of IP traffic.
