August:-An Awareness
Workshop on “Green Chandigarh-Solar Chandigarh” was organized on the occasion
of ‘Akshay Urja Divas’ by CREST [Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science &
Technology Promotion Society] in collaboration with Yuvsatta-an NGO at
Community Centre, Sector 19B, Chandigarh today, where
representatives of FOSWAC, Resident Welfare Associations and representatives of
Chandigarh Beopar Mandal were invited to
sensitize and explain about the installation of Rooftop Solar Power Plants in
Chandigarh.
Before inaugurating the Workshop, Parimal Rai, Adviser
to the Administrator flagged off a Rally of around 100 school students from C.L. Aggarwal DAV Model School, Sec. 7B, Chandigarh
creating awareness about ‘Solar Chandigarh’. The
prime aim behind the campaign is to motivate people towards the use of
renewable energy resources like solar energy to control carbon emissions.
The Workshop was also
attended by Anurag Aggarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary (Science & Tech.)
Chandigarh, Santosh Kumar, Director(S&T) & CEO, CREST, S.C.Saini, Nodal Officer (Solar), Electricity
Deptt. and other Officers/ officials of Chandigarh Administration, Baljinder
Singh Bittu, President, FOSWAC, representatives of Resident Welfare
Associations, Arun Bora, President of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal.
Parimal Rai, while giving his inaugural address
informed that Chandigarh Administration is fully committed to develop Chandigarh
as a Model Solar City. He emphasized that renewable energy is the need of the
hour and it is high time that cities of India which are major source of
electricity consumption start producing solar energy. He exhorted the representatives of Resident Welfare Associations
to take aggressive steps on installation of Solar Power Plants to propagate it
among residents of Chandigarh.
On this occasion,
Chief Guest distributed following Solar Power Award, 2016 to the EPC Contractors and Solar Energy Developers based on their performance
in last year and asked them to make more
efforts to take their Solar products to more and more households in
Chandigarh.
In this connection,
Chief Guest also announced that Rs.1.00 Lac cash award shall be given to the
best performing Resident Welfare Association based on the performance of
maximum Solar Installations on the occasion of next Independence Day i.e. 15th
August, 2017.
On this occasion, Pramod Sharma,
Convenor, Yuvsatta was also given award for their outstanding performance by
NGO for promotion of solar energy in UT Chandigarh.
Santosh Kumar, Director (Science & Tech) &
CEO (CREST) informed that JERC has notified a new Solar Net Metering/ Gross
Metering guidelines wherein any resident of Chandigarh can produce Solar Power
and can either sell it directly to Chandigarh Electricity Department or can
consume it and carry forward the excess if any for the next month. The Solar
Tariff for 2016-17 is recently out and it is very remunerative. Now up to 10KW Solar Plant
capacity one can earn @ Rs 9.18
per unit of solar electricity produced. He also explained in detail about the procedure involved.
