Chandigarh Gets Award for Fund Raising and Membership Running Shield

Chandigarh 01st September:- Under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh is providing succor to people in distress for decades and continues to uphold the cause of good health for all through its activities. This has been made possible only due to generous contribution from the general public towards noble cause of this Society both in cash and in kind. It is through these contributions that the I.R.C.S., Chandigarh is running and maintaining charitable activities and projects under the banner of Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh.
To raise the fund of the Society and to make aware the general public about the activities of Red Cross and its Aims and Objectives, the branch had launched a Membership Drive during last year. Under this drive, the Society had enrolled Life associates, Life Members and Patrons of the Indian Red Cross Society during the year and generated a sum of Rs.2,59,670/- through the drive as donation and Membership Subscription for raising the fund for the welfare of the community towards humanity. The U.T. Branch, Chandigarh got selected for the award of Fund Raising and Membership Running Shield and was awarded 1st Position for the year 2015-16. The award was presented by Hon’ble President of India-cum-President of Indian Red Cross Society & St. John Ambulance (India) in the Annual General Meeting of Indian Red Cross Society & St. John Ambulance (India), National Headquarters during Ceremonial Session held on 30th August, 2016in Rashtrapati Bhawan Auditorium, at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.  Rakesh Kumar Popli, Additional Commissioner Excise & Taxation cum Secretary, Red Cross U.T. Branch, Chandigarh received the award On behalf of Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator- cum- President Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh & Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh,   
S. S. Saini, Joint Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh was also presented Award of Merit by J.P. Nadda, Hon’ble Union Health and Family Planning Minister, Govt. of India, in appreciation of devoted service to the humanitarian cause of the Red Cross.
To provide more assistance and facilities to the poor, needy and destitute people of the society, the Red Cross has decided to work more in this field jointly with other social organisations. An intensive drive in Fund Raising, Membership, Blood Donation and service to the needy will be launch very soon. Besides other welfare projects, the construction of Red Cross Sarai at PGI is one of the most important project of the Red Cross Society, Chandigarh to provide safe and comfortable accommodation to about 500 patients and their attendants. The construction of this Sarai is going to start soon with an estimated cost of rupees fifteen crore in additional to a Home for Mentally & physically challenged children at Chandigarh.
