State Election Commssion Announces MC General Election :Model Code of Conduct Comes into Effect

Chandigarh 15th November:- The Administrator, U.T, Chandigarh, has approved the election programme for holding General elections from 26 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh to elect Councilors. With this the model code of conduct comes into effect till the end of the election process.
 While giving more detail about the General elections process State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta said that filing of nominations will commence from 22nd November and the last for the same is 29th November. The nominations will be scrutinized on 30th November. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is 03rd December and the date of poll if necessary will be 18th December. Before 30th December the election shall be completed. The hours of poll for the above election shall be from 8.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. 
He further elaborated that the approximate number of voters of Chandigarh is 5, 07,190 which has 2, 70,358 males, 2, 36,819 females and 13 Third gender as per official records. During the election there will be approximately 460 polling booths  
The candidates can file nominations in the offices of the respective Returning Officers (already appointed by the Commission) in their offices. Ward No.  1-4 is Ms. Nishu Singhal, HCS, Ward no. 5-8 is Ranjit Kaur HCS, Ward no. 9-12 is Navjot Kaur, PCS, Ward no. 13-16 is S.K Jain HCS, Ward no. 17-20 is Rakesh Kumar Popli,  PCS, Ward no. 21-23 is Rajiv Kumar Gupta, PCS, Ward No 24-26 is RS Brar, PCS.
Rakesh Mehta said that interested persons may obtain and file nomination papers with the Returning Officers between the hours of 11.00 A.M. and 3.00 P.M. on all working days from 22nd November to 29th November except on public holiday(s) declared by the Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh, for above mentioned purpose. 
In case the general public and any member of political party find that the Model Code of Conduct is being violated, they can make a complaint to the concerned Election Observer and Election Expenditure Observer.  Cases of violating the Code of Conduct and any instructions regarding the election expenses by a candidate, a complaint to the concerned Election Observer and Expenditure Observer, may be made.
