19th December:- On the fourth day of International Public Health Management Development Program being held in
School of Public Health, PGI, Chandigarh. Dr Jeetu Lal Meena, State
Quality Assurance Medical Officer, DOHFW, Govt of Gujarat deliberated on Quality
Management System in Hospital and Quality Standards for Public Hospitals. With
his work on quality management in state of Gujarat, he gave an in-depth
understanding on quality improvement, accreditation, quality assessment,
quality assurance, quality audit and quality indicators in improving health
facilities of country. Dr. Sonu Goel, Associate Professor, School of Public
Health, PGI, Chandigarh and Program Director took a session on Monitoring and
Evaluation. In this session concept of monitoring and
evaluation in the context of health program implementation and steps about
how to monitor and evaluate a national program were discussed with examples
from current national health programme. This session will enhance
participants’ skills in effective evaluation of current practices and programmes
in their respective health care setting.
Dr. Satya Ranjan Lenka,
WHO Country Office, briefed about the Theories of Change (TOC) for Monitoring
and Evaluation. With an example from Primary Health Centre Enhancement Project
where provision of HIV/AIDS services at PHC were done by placing contractually
recruited Nurse Practitioners (NP) components of TOC, development of TOC and
its benefits were explained. All sessions were supported with relevant case
studies, short informative videos and associated management games.
A management game was
organized at Sukhana Lake in the evening where in the participants had to raise
funds for an Orphange “Balniketan” based in Chandigarh by means of selling the
painting made by Orphanage children. Through this participants learned
principles of team work, communication, shared vision, coordination and
conscientiousness towards society.
