Singh Badnore, Governor Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh
has categorically asked the Chandigarh Traffic Police to be tough with the law
breaking youngsters who drive vehicles in a careless manner and no traffic
violator should be spared.
Addressing
the people at the closing of 28th National Road Safety Week, V
P Singh Badnore expressed concern over the rise in the accidental cases in the
city in which mostly the teenagers are involved because of the drunken driving
and carelessly driven vehicles. He has asked the Driving License Issuing Authority
to minutely check and verify the antecedents before issuing the licenses
especially to the youth who were being given the licenses first time after
attaining the qualifying age.
The
Governor has also urged the Chandigarh Police not to succumb to any pressures
from anybody, including the senior officers, where catching up of the violators
and law breakers are concerned.
The
Administrator released the Calendar 2017 of the Chandigarh Traffic Police and
presented the awards to the officers who have performed exceptionally well
during week long celebrations of the Road Safety Week. He also enjoyed very
emotive and thoughtful skit on the theme of drunken driving. He termed the skit
not only a skit but a realistic situation which normally happens in the homes
where parents yield to the irrational demands of their children. He urged
the public to work in unison with the traffic police and co-operate them to
reduce the crime in the city thereby making Chandigarh – a Real Safe City, free
of all accidents.
The
officers who were honoured at the function included, Dr. Iish
Singhal, SSP, Krishan Kumar DSP Central, Rajiv Kumar DSP South, Yashpal
Vinayak, DSP Administration, Inspector Dilsher Singh, Inspector Kapil Dev., Inspector
Ashwani Kumar, Lady Inspector Paramjit Sekhon and Inspector Ranjeet Singh
Dhillon. He also gave away prizes to the winners of painting competitions which
was held as a part of the week long celebrations of 28th National
Road Safety Week.
The
students who were given awards are, Palak Garg, Manya, Sandeep and Consolation
prize given to Rahneema Rani of Mauli Jagran(Senior Wing) awards were given to
Anuksha, Nitika and Sanjna (Junior Wing).
