PGI Organizes CME and Workshop on "Interventional Radiology" for Radiology Residents

Chandigarh 02nd February:- The Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh organized a one day CME and workshop on 'Interventional Radiology: what every clinical radiologist needs to know'. The meeting was held under the able guidance of Prof. N. Khandelwal, Chairperson and Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGI, and Prof. Mandeep Kang, Prof. Naveen Kalra and Prof. Vivek Gupta, Organizing and Joint Organizing Secretaries of the meeting.
The major attraction of the meeting was the hands-on-workshops on angiography, ultrasound guided and CT-guided procedures. Angiography training was given by using simulators. CT and ultrasound training was given using phantoms and mannequins. About 60 resident’s in-training from different medical colleges of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh actively participated in the workshops and were given lessons on skill development and refinement. The department plans to hold such kind of workshops every six months for improving the skills of the residents resulting in better patient care.
In the first session of the meeting didactic lectures were held on various aspects of interventional radiology like performing a safe angiography and diagnosis and treatment of stroke. There were several talks on the methods of performing CT angiograms of different regions of the body. Image guided biopsies and drainage procedures were also discussed in detail.
